Connolly and Lombardi have to go. How many of our NHL ready prospects are still waiver exempt? I don't believe Kadri still is, gotta think Frattin too. That makes a difference on who we can call up in case of injuries or if we do dump Connolly or Lombardi. Gotta think that we have one forward and one defenseman as a healthy scratch all year.

even though his best games in jr. and as a marlie were at centre, Kadri will be pushed to the wing, as will connolly....colborne and lombardi to the minors....but yeah, not sure where that leaves Bozak if JVR works out down the middle

Leafs usually have 1 forward and D as a healthy scratch. That's generally the norm unless you are right against the cap.

That was my gut too, but Ryan has been playing with Getzlaf and Perry pretty much his whole career. Obviously there's talent there, but Kessel's put up those numbers playing with lesser players (besides Savard, but he was not entering his prime then) his entire career. Hard to gauge whether or not he'd put up the same numbers on a line with Lupul, JVR/Bozak.

That was the only part I decided to leave out, as its so hard to gauge. Ryan has definitely played with better players, however Kessel really geled with Lupul and Bozak and went on a tear.

I suppose, you would need to analyze which player made a bigger difference. The Leafs, with Kessel, were top 10 in scoring last year, however were bottom 5 in goals against. Even being amongst the top 10 in scoring they still managed to lose most of their games. So, does having a guy like Kessel who can put up more points on his own benefit a team moreso than a guy like Ryan who can also put up points (albeit maybe less) but also bang and crash?

have to figure 2 of Bozak, Kulemin, and MacArthu will be traded before camp. Both Connolly and Lombardi spent time on wing last season. Love to see at least one of them removed though

The Leafs *could* move Connolly, and they *could* also find him some kind of role....Lombardi, neither really applies. Is there something in their contracts that states if they cant be moved or penciled into the lineup, they have to be the towel boy?

I think Connolly's likely to spend enough time on the IR that he stays/sits on bench as healthy scratch.

Kadri is still waiver exempt (51 games of 80 required for a 21 years old), Frattin (57 games of 60 games played for a 24 year old) is too, but he's likely going to stick so that'll be moot. Komarov will probably start in the NHL while Frattin is on IR, but I see that guy going down to the Marlies for further adjustment to the NA game.

I forgot about the age thing - went with standard exemption for ELC... but I was thinking it was full season 82 games...
