You think PA is gonna be with Landy/Oreilly? - poisondhearts37
He will get his first shot with Duchene and Hejduk
Dont think they will break up Landy/O'Reilly/Downie or McGinn/Stastny/Jones yet |

Erhoff with Johnson would work, Salary offsets with Statsny pretty close. And prospect for prospect. Obyrne is a beast but also UFA next year. We have to trade from our deepest prospect pool to get anything done, no? - 50NIX
Sabres wont part with Foligno, but I think we could have Sekera and Armia for Staz. Armia will be nice with one of our centers in years to come. And I think Staz better years are behind him-He just seems like he is always hurt or something. |

Stastny centering Jones and Hejduk with
Duchene centering PA and McGinn then
O'Reilly with Landy and Downie

Luke Adams is an undesireable piece. You better come up with more than that. Let him play in Portland or wherever your AHL team is. He cant skate. |

HAHA, I thought they had a secret prospect.
Really tho, Vanek for Stastny straight up is pretty fair. |

RWer, we have a good patch of LW with Landeskog, McGinn, and Parentau.
Downie, Jones, and Hejduk fill up the right side. Upgrade top line RW with Stafford, like his game, plus I think Sacco would be able to use Staff more effectively than Vanek.
Vanek is great just going forward, I would take the slightly younger north american RW - DDM-Coga
Vanek is a stud, Stafford is a 3rd Liner. I think you'd have to be crazy to take anyone on Buffalo over Vanek. Dude puts up 30+ with no center to get him the puck, and Lindy Ruff making him play too much D. He would blow up for 50 on the Avs |

I thought about McGinn playing with Duchene as well, just liked how well Stastny and him were clickign at the end of last season, could just roll them out the gate again and see what happens. But Hejduk always plays so well with Stastny so maybe thats the best option to do your lineup |

Both could use a change of scenery. I love Vanek, he works hard in front of the net and puts the puck in but if the Sabres want a decent Centerman they will have to give up a good player....not the Sekera & Gerbe + 2nd rounder BS. |

To Colorado: Thomas Vanek, Andrej Sekera, 2013 4th RND pick
Addresses need for top-tier scoring winger to play opposite Lando, a top-pairing 2-way d-man to play with EJ As well as a 2013 4th RND pick.
To Buffalo: Paul Stastny, Jamie McGinn, 2013 3rd RND pick
Buffalo gets a #1C going forward, as well as a physical 2-way (RFA) winger in McGinn. Sabres also collect a 2013 3rd RND pick.
Thoughts? - Blitz
I think that's almost a good trade but who knows what you'll get with vanek |

Like Dooshene and two 1st round picks + a prospect hefty.
The kid is a stud and he's only going to get better. He'll be a top-5 defenceman in this league for a long time. - kcNYI
ahahah that would be the biggest joke of a trade, I'd rather have duchene than harmonic alone and thats a pretty bold statement to say hell be a top 5 so soon with a league full of great young defenseman |

i wouldnt do it.
sounds like both teams are trading apples for apples. Both teams fill a hole with the deal, but also create one with making it.
Avs have lots of prospects like Barrie and Elliot and Siemens and future draft picks to deal away for proven wingers. If I were AVS management, I'd be thinking at some point during the season of trading a prospect for a tier one winger to replace Hejduk who should probably retire after this season. |

I think the Avs Fwds should be
Downie oreilly landeskog
Hejduk duchene parenteau
McGinn stastny jones
McLeod Mitchell kobasew
I really don't like Hejduk playing with duchene so I think we need to somehow trade for a better winger and I wanna see Hishon or sgarbossa play a few games too

For some reason Alain Vigneault and his sidekick Rick Bowness have done everything in their power to ruin Keith Ballard's career since he's been a Canuck... When he got here, he made the mistake of making it known that he is far more comfortable playing on the left side. Vigneault and Bowness are control freaks, so being given that kind of information meant they'd either play him on the right side or bench him. They've never given him a regular partner... Gets thrown with rookies or fringe NHLers... And no matter who he's paired with, they get their limited minutes with the bottom 6 forwards (usually 4th liners).
Before he came to the Canucks, he played 4 seasons as a top 4 or top pairing d-man on sh!tty Coyotes/Panthers teams. Over that span he was +7 with 25 goals, 85 assists, 110 points. He throws thunderous momentum changing hip-checks when he's able to play on the left side...
Anyways, I'd highly recommend him. He's gotten a raw deal in Vancouver and deserves an opportunity. Also with all the grit & heart the Avs have on that roster, I think it would bring the best out of him. He's a competitor.
$4.2 million per for 3 more years, and I'm sure he could be acquired for next to nothing as his cap hit is ridiculous for the role the Canucks have given him. Could be a perfect fit for Johnson. |

I don't think well be able to trade a prospect for a top 6 winger and I don't like when they give away 1st round picks and I don't think we can expect a top d men out of any of our prospects, hopefully Siemens can at least be a top 4 and a top 2 for us eventually |

Not a fair trade for Buffalo. Vanek is our top scorer.
I am not that high on Stastny anyway. |

i dont know, I think its possible....something like the Leafs/Flyers deal.
Winger JVR for Dman Schenn. Ok they are active roster players, but this is the line of thinking Im going with....trade a dman/prospect who still has lots of potential for a winger who shows up every night and can put the puck in the net, now thats not too much to ask for is it LOL |

I actually was gonna write the same thing about Stastny.
Who knows about Stastny??
He might be a 3rd, at best 2nd line center.
I am not too high on him.

My favorite option on the prospect front is Gormley, I think he could be had for Downie especially if Doan does not resign with Phoenix.
The easiest proven guy to acquire would be Enstrom, and the best would be Yandle.
Only because I would rather not lose Stastny I would probably try something like these first.
Barrie + 1st (Maybe add another mid level prospect.) for Enstrom : He only has one year left so even this is quite a bit of a gamble, but I doubt they would take any less.
Downie for Gormley : This is my favorite and I would probably even add a good center prospect like Sgarbossa, but I am pretty high on Gormley regardless of the fact that he is unproven. It's always difficult to judge actual value when trading for high end prospects, so basically I think the game Downie brings and the position he plays could be enough to convince Phoenix to bite. (His salary is pretty friendly to at 2.6M)
Without Downie we still have Jones, PAP, & Hejduk down the right side. I also think Colorado should be one of the teams interested in Morrow. He is exactly what we need, younger than Doan and a LW instead of a RW.
Those are the realistic moves, the only one I really like for Stastny is something around Stastny + for M. Staal & Dubinsky. Dubinsky wouldn't be impossible to pry out of NY with the plus and Stastny for M. Staal is pretty good value.
EJ and Staal are similar right now in that they can both be shutdown Defenders but they put up points. I think both of them have the ability to put up more. 30/35 from both of them would be completely possible if they clicked.
Trading Stastny for Yandle would require us to add with no real hope of getting a center back for the third line. Which makes M. Staal the easy option..
As for the Carolina thing and the Staals, as long as your careful like Shero was he could be traded to Carolina a year out after the 2013-14 season if he was not willing to sign an extension. Two years is enough time to get comfortable somewhere though.
And by the way.. Thanks for taking over the thread Buffalo, The blog was not about trading Stastny for Vanek which we already know neither fan base likes. It's about defense.. Vanek is to old to fit into a newly rebuilt team forget it.. I would rather resign our own home grown talent and keep him than trade him for Vanek who could walk after his contract easier than Stastny would. |
