But they didn't.

They turned into Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton. The Bruins fleeced Burkie IMO.

Absolutely. And it was a horrible trade... in hindsight. At the time there is not a single person who could have imagined those two players being drafted by boston...

He has done better since returning to the middle (offensively, at least), but given linemates he's played well with before and time to adjust to the RW, I think it could work out well.

A thought: How well did his centers back then stack up to Clode?

- BulliesPhan87

Nonetheless, Briere is a superior player IMO when given more open ice, and playing him out on the wing takes that away from him. It would be like playing Giroux on the wing. Both of these players excel when given time and space, although that's going to be harder and harder to come by for the latter, but I digress.

There's always going to be some give and take though, which in this case, as you dutifully noted, the move to wing would take away defesnive responsbilties from arguably the club's worst d-zone presence.

Which was my original point. I still wouldn't have dealt 2 firsts for Kessel though, especially if I were taking over a franchise that had been in the cellar for years, which was the case with the Leafs.

See my other posts. Please don't say it is impossible. It is. Maybe not likely, but possible.

Anything can be possible. It's possible that if I divorce my Wife, I might be able to hook up with a Supermodel. But like you said, not likely. I just find your adjective to describe certain assets as "crap", puzzling.

Oh I completely agree. It was a bad trade off the bat, but had Kessel produced like he did last season, and had they not been a poopty team two years in a row it would have been much more palatable.

Anyone else think a line featuring G with Briere at a wing would be absolutoely nasty??

Im getting married in November.. and I am lucky to be with a hot chick. Its possible that I could divorce her (after getting married) for an ugly chick with potential, but I dont think I wanna do it.

Kinda like Anaheim taking CRAP for Ryan... except my fiance looks nothing like bobby ryan. Much bigger boobs.

I think I am gonna go have a drink of water now.

I can just picture Danny slide in from behind the net and G featherin a pass to him for the slamdunk. All the while Hartnell will be like "OHHHHHHHHHH"

I think I was using crap as a noun, not an adjective.

But my point overall is can we trade MAB, 1st rounders, Gus and Wellwood at the deadline for anything decent?

I am sure we could get a player in return, but is it worth it. Thats the $23 question.

Perhaps no one here is thinking creatively.

Giroux and Briere were linemates back in 08-09 before Briere got hurt, with Briere almost at a point-per-game pace.

Of course, that line benefited from Gagne/Richards/Knuble and Hartnell/Carter/Lupul drawing all the top-level checking.

Unrestricted free agent Shane Doan has decided to wait another week to see how the Coyotes ownership situation plays out. "I would say if we don't have an answer by the 16th (of July), it may be time to get serious about listening to other teams' offers," Doan's agent, Terry Bross said. Doan has already waited into the second week of the free agent market. It seems pretty clear at this point that Doan wants to play with the Coyotes, but needs more clarity regarding their ownership situation first. If he does feel the need to move on, he's expected to stay in the Western Conference.

At least he's being very straightforward about his intentions. He wants to be in Phoenix badly, but recognizes there may be a point where that is not a possibility. It's not like he's saying, "Thank you, two thirds of NHL teams, for your enormous offers. I need to... err, talk with my family, I'll let you know in a few days there will be no deadline."
