Gotta say, if the Flyers traded Giroux I think they lose all confidence from future potential stars looking to re-sign. I mean you gotta plant your flag with someone sooner or later, can'be trading all these franchise guys so soon.

I agree it's close. I just think Weber gives you better consistency towards the cup. Again, we would still have Briere, Schenn and Coots down the middle.

Weber, Timmo, Mez, Coby, Grossmann, and Schenn. That is sick.

Bryz would be great in this situation IMO.

We would have Harts and Voracek and Read and Simmonds at wing. Would need a little more, but I'll take that.

At the end of the day, there is no such thing as building a championship team. All you can hope to do is build a contender. Everything has to fall into place to win a Cup: star players need to play at their normally high level or beyond, role players need to be consistent and more often then not one or two need to step up and play above their normal level, defense needs to be tight and the goalie needs to usually needs to play beyond their average level.

I agree Joe. I think thats why Giroux will begin and finish his career in a Flyers uniform.

I'm trying to get Weber on the cheap...

Chances are they could wait until next summer and just sign him without losing any players if you believe he will test the market.

Would you be ok with a 10 year, 110 mil deal?

That could be the case. The difference is the Flyers dont need to trade Giroux but the Preds may be forced to trade Weber. So the Flyers can put a nice offer together without giving up their superstar. They still have Schenn and Couturier to start a package with.
- stveshdy

I've said before that I'd offer up Schenn, Couturier, Read, Voracek, Meszaros and 3 1sts for Weber if need be. He would have a greater contribution to the team than those guys but not Giroux, especially from a team PR standpoint. Fans would be outraged if G was dealt. Gotta take the business side into account as well.

I think the Flyers would. I think they would add two years to your proposal to bring down the cap hit.

Why does the guy that posts as the "fat man in the box" never post in the Flyer threads?

Why is this even being discussed?

Giroux will be a Flyer for the next decade plus.

The benchmark should be the Crosby deal. 12 yrs, $98 mill please. Sign me up.

I wouldn't move Giroux or Couturier for Weber. Anybody else is fair game.

Crosby gave Pittsburgh a discount. Weber is going to command over $100M.

If that's what it took I would. However, if Nashville is pressed, I think they'd take something along the lines of Schenn, Couturier and a few 1sts for Weber. There will be other suitors as well. The price will be fairly high.

cause someone asked if we'd trade Giroux for Weber. Could also swap out that name with Richards a few years ago too.

I would rather keep it the higher cap then extend it.. Hes what? 26-27... Give him 10 years.. you give him 12 your looking at a 10 mill hit for a 39 year old.. thats where it gets dicey..

EDIT: But it wouldnt be a over 35 deal, so never mind

Even for Weber, it's a staunch no. Giroux isn't going anywhere, and you'd be on crack to think otherwise.

Crosby got a discount price. $8.7 million AAV for his new deal is the same as his old and the cap increased by $6 million. Weber will get closer to $9 million per.

EDIT: Giroux will probably give us a slight discount I would think. Probably less of one than Sid though.

I would've done Richie for Weber. Richards was never even close to Giroux talent wise in his prime.

Those numbers were for a Giroux extension.

I realize Weber will cost $100+ mill in FA.

As much as I love Weber there is no way I could give all that up for him. Hes one player that will have a high cap hit. Your team would be shredded if you made that deal of Schenn, Couturier, Read, Voracek, Mez and 3 1st rounders. Thats a big time overpayment IMO.

Agreed, which is why I'd include Schenn in a package for Weber.
