because the only time he has ever thrived was on teams stocked up on leaders

team canada: huge amounts of leadership

europe: played with guys like thornton

whenever he wasnt surrounded by one or two guys of that ilk, his team didnt succeed... its pretty damn obvious

- Dozzer

He was in Columbus. Surrounded by studs Vinny Prospal and Antoine Vermette and an absolute piece of crap in net. The only year they got good goaltending they made the playoffs.

I'm not saying he's a stud and I don't think he's the answer in Toronto but I find it hard to believe you guys are saying he's NOT a good leader. He's had no chance to prove this one way or the other.

Not a stupid question at all. But unfortunately, not a quick question.

Funny thing about Toronto - a lot of the neighbourhoods are gentrifying - for that very reason. Young couples who make decent salaries can't afford good homes in good neighbourhoods, so they are moving into areas that you previously wouldn't ever consider. And it is making the neighbourhoods much nicer. Leslieville used to be cheap, but now it is expensive. Roncesvalles is definitely up and coming. Parkdale used to be known for crack, but because it is so close to High Park, it is now gentrifying.

And "30 minutes from downtown" is a bit vague for Toronto. My parents live 20 minutes from downtown when there isn't traffic. But when there is traffic, you can at least double that.

And one other thing - it really depends on what kind of house you are looking for. 3 bedrooms, one bathroom? Or more suburban living?

What I suggest is you go on the Toronto Real Estate Board website and use their search engine to look at properties:

http://www.realtor.ca/
That might give you a better idea of what is realistic.

One other weird thing: most Torontonians don't realize it, but there is a real mental divide between east and west. Torontonians who live in the eastern side will tell you that the western side isn't as nice, and vice versa.

So if your GF's sister and bro-in-law tell you that you should only look in the west, take it with a grain of salt. You can be perfectly happy on either side.

...then why are you arguing?
- Barx

I didn't say he was a great leader but didn't say he wasn't either.
You on the other hand said he was "NOT" a good leader. Even capitalizing the letters to prove your point. My arguement is we have no way of knowing this.

. Quick question for you, and it may be stupid so i apologise. Are there any areas within 30 mins of downtown that are relatively affordable house price wise? I don't need it to be amazing, but decent clean houses, nice area. My GF's sister and bro in law live in Roncevalles (Sp?). I wanna move there but so expensive. What neighbourhoods should i look at? Cheers man. Like stuff under half a mil, even less?
- walshyleafsfan1

Whitby....although the only way you get to downtown T.O in 30 minutes is doing 120km with no traffic or cops.

What I bought for just over a half a million you couldn't get for 1.2 million in Toronto.

If you go west of Roncesvalles more towards Etobicoke you'll definitely find houses under 500. Once you get in Toronto you'd be hard pressed.. Houses around 500 will be in bad neighborhoods or need a lot of work...
To let you know how ridiculous it is I live in a decent condo and it's around 500

- Mr_Smokey

I'm not trying to be a smartass - just don't want to make things more confusing.

Etobicoke is in Toronto. But Toronto used to be 5 cities (Toronto, North York, Scaborough, York and Etobicoke), so sometimes it gets confusing.

A conditional offer - you guys who aren't in Toronto are so cute.

In Toronto, a conditional offer is that we agree to give you more money than we can possibly afford, but we are willing to increase that if you make a frowny face.

- Atomic Wedgie

Londons market SUCKS right now...

The house was listed at 264,900 without appliances. We were going to offer a conditional at 260,000 with all appliances. Thats how bad it is.

I've lived both east and West, and essentially they are the same, until you actually get to Scarborough.

South Etobicoke/Old Toronto is an excellent area with relatively easy access to downtown via Lakeshore, Gardner, and Streetcars. Was much more affordable 5 years ago, but for what you get, still not ridiculous and a lot of houses there actually have decent lots.

(Lakeshore and Kipling - further west and south of Lakeshore. Plus you're close to the water!)

Although I haven't priced that area in a couple years, so could be crazy now too...

it reeaally is bad. And the worst part about it? That is actually really starting to irritate me?

All the comments so far have been:

- They really liked the place, very nice....but dont want to pay condo fees
- They may be putting in an offer, but arent sure about not having forced air
- The place is great, but they think the condo fees are a little high
- Loved the place, loved the size and the work done...but dont want to live in a condo

SO WTF ARE YOU LOOKING AT MY HOUSE WHEN YOU ALREADY KNEW WHAT THE CONDO FEES WERE AND THAT ITS NOT FORCED AIR......AHEAD OF TIME

...had to get that off my chest.

gonna buy me a condo... gonna buy me a cuisinart

Try Alderwood - West End of TO - Browns Line area, older houses but mature lots 30 min to DT.

Mississauga East is also 30-40 min to DT try Dixie/Cawthra and QEW area.

exactly!

Holzer replaces Schenn....Franson replaces Komisarek. Who is traded to Vancouver.

Nice to know everyone agrees this fine morning!

- noename09

But if a D or 2 gets injured, which will happen, who do we have to bring up that's NHL ready besides Komi and Lashoff? Maybe Blacker?...Komi just might stay for this reason...with Connolly traded instead....
