good.
a horribly over rated player with a bloated contract who addresses absolutely no needs of the Leafs. - Barx
I just don't sense that Nash has a burning desire to win. |

Ummmmm, maybe I'm missing something here, but what does Holzer's contract have to do with Luongo? - Atomic Wedgie
i just think it shows that there is possibly another Dman on the way out. |

Is it just me, or does it seem wrong that a Canadian Kid wouldn't want to play in Canada?
Ok, right now the teams are sucking, but the chance to play in Canada over say San Jose??? As a Canadian, I would take the true north strong and free...
Parise and Suter went to Minny, where are all the Canadian Kids who want to come home and play in Canada!!!????? - Hockey_Reverend
I know what you mean. He is 27, still has time in the league. Unless he signs for a couple years with hopes of winning a cup, then coming north in his final years. That is somewhat of a trend.
Parise and Suter are from Minny aren't they? They are almost as rabid in Minny about their hockey as we are up here. I still remember when the Northstars left. |

The same can be said for the dancing queen Luongo... when your prime destination of choice is the Panthers you clearly are just running down the clock. |

Agreed.
Look at it this way, if the Leafs had not had that aweful collapse last year and had made the playoffs, people would be hailing Burke a genius and Kessel a franchise player.
Right now, it is all negative. But once they put it together and make the playoffs teh whole atmosphere will change around this team... - Hockey_Reverend
Beauchemin for Lupul/Gardiner and a pick. Kaberle for Colborne, a 1st and conditional. Whats soooooo bad about this? Komi is really the only garbage move in my books now that Armstrong is gone. |

They wanted Holzer to play full time with the Leafs..cause theyre moving a defender (cough cough former allstar) to Vancouver. |

I think Nash knows if he played in Canada the fans would soon figure out how overpaid he is and put too much pressure on him.
He can hide more in the US and just play for Canada at the Olympics on the 4th line. |

Mike I totally agree with you about Getzlaf and Oshie. I think both would be stellar additions to the Maple Leafs Rosters. But if they are going to trade for Getzlaf I would think that would mean sending away either Connely or Bozak, a second or third line forward (MacArthur, Lombardi) or a prospect (Kadri), and a second round pick.
I'm not saying I wouldn't support this trade. I think Burke should get it done. However, he's going to have to budge on his no long-term contract policy if he would hope to resign a player such as Getzlaf.
Go Leafs Go and good luck with the rest of the summer. |

I loved the fact Beauchemin only cost us $. We basically outright bought Lupul and Gardiner. |

the lockout year too.. in europe
nash to me is the best complimentary player in the game.. he's not the go to guy tho
going all the way back to junior he only ever plaed well when surrounded by other stars.. when he played for the knights they barely made the playoffs in his first year, missed them his second year.
it just seems to me that whenever a team relies on him to be the pillar and the go to guy... it doesnt work out. |

And how did the house thingy go? - Atomic Wedgie
We may be putting in a conditional offer cause we like it...but our house hasnt received a single offer in about a month and a half...so were likely going to wait a little longer. |

Well, they were going to re-sign Holzer no matter what. And the one-way deal is probably more the fact that he could go play in Europe for a lot more money, so they needed to give him guaranteed money (and by that, I mean not a 2-way contract).
But hey, if you see it as a sign that Komi is being shipped to Vancouver, I am not going to argue. |

He was in Columbus. How often did you get to see him play? Also.....if any place could sap the desire to win out of you it would be Columbus.
He's played hard internationally and I think you put him in Philly or Pittsburgh and you would see a different player. |

Ya, all these people saying the Kessel trade has set us back is not true. As far as I am concerned the best player in that trade is Kessel. He had what, 80 points last year? And this is on a crappy team. Seguin is good, and maybe he will be better down the road, but right now the Kessel trade is fine. It has not set us back. JFJ set us back like 10 years... - Hockey_Reverend
i think the detractors say that "right now" is the problem. this trade was always going to benefit the Leafs for the first 3-4 years. they got the ready-made player and gave up draft picks. and one of those draft picks put up more points in his second season than Kessel did in any of his first 5. it has not set you back on the ice yet, for sure, but in 5 years, things might have changed. Burke needs to work on locking Kessel up asap. |

What a flowery pile of poop that was. Wow. - gravyface
yer all worked up today aren't you......
my problem more than anything with Burke is his gigantic, rhetoric spewing mouth.
He says he is gonna build a menacing team-we are arguably the leagues softest.
He says he has a five year plan, although some solid prospects, the team is still many, many years away.
He says he is gonna build from the net out........
It gets frustrating. I want a mean and nasty team who other teams HATE to play.
I'm talking guys in the top and bottom six who can smash and crash and aren't afraid to get their noses dirty. Guys like Clowe, Hartnel, Perry etc....
I loved the idea of Burke as our GM because that is the type of team I thought he would build.
I will admit, I like the looks of some of our prospects, but in our poor development program I worry the potential future Neely's and Lucic's will end up being nothing more than 4th line plugs.

A conditional offer - you guys who aren't in Toronto are so cute.
In Toronto, a conditional offer is that we agree to give you more money than we can possibly afford, but we are willing to increase that if you make a frowny face. |

he compliments great players.. but doesnt elevate other players himself |
