Joe Thornton is better than anyone we currently have on the roster by a longshot.
- Rally_Shots

This is a true statement. We should BE so lucky to get Joe Thornton on the Sabres.

He's still won more playoff series than this team has won in 5 years.

You said he's never taken his team deep in the playoffs. Getting your team to the Eastern or Western conference finals is going deep in the playoffs.

- dadeadhead

You're right. Again, just playing devil's advocate. Plus with how everyone says we're making "anti-bruins" signings, Thornton would be pretty funny. And I guess the more I look at it, Thornton would probably be the best trade to go for that wouldn't log-jam Grigorenko's development as a top #1 center.

I'm not disagreeing with that; I'm just being devil's advocate I suppose. If Darcy got Thornton, well at least he's trying. So Thornton brings play-off experience. But we still don't have any cup winners on the team.

In my book talent > experience. But thats just my opinion on the subject. I could care less about if a guy has won the cup or not on my team.

fun fact, every team who won the cup since the lock-out had a player on their roster who previously won a cup.

How we doin gang ?

seein a lot of chatter about how darcy said he would trade young talent for a star player

not sure I would do that with our crop of prospects...all of these guys seem like sure thing prospects so I sont necessarily want to ship them out just yet

then again I was the biggest kassian advocate and he was straight up bad

I can't remember/to lazy to look up the last team that won a cup that didn't have a cup winner already on it.

Just saying.

When your boss says he wants to win the cup now, that's pretty much the only option you got.

Thornton is amazing. If he was actually available, darcy would attack. Then offer up some deal that completely screws over the Sharks with another darcy Jedi mind trick.

Getzlaf is not coming to Buffalo to the people guessing that. If Anaheim wants a 2nd line center allegedly for Ryan, why the H would they trade Getzlaf???

Just beacause Anaheim didn't make the playoffs for the 1st time recently doesn't mean they are going to unload a top 10 in the league center. Just my opinion, and I think Murrary is a good GM and would never undervalue a large, playmaking, tough, goal scoring center.

Going through the winners in my head I can't name one from the montreal teams of the 70's-present that hasn't had one on it.

So ive read, still doesn't change my opinion on the matter. All cup winning teams have had tons of talent on their rosters, I think that's the more important part of winning a cup.

Doan isn't going to sign with Buffalo....
- KG

Doan is nice but we don't need no fVcking Winger and I'm confident Darcy knows this since he is the GM. I'm as positive as TEXTINGSOURCES24/7 that DR and LR have a big center in their scope. If not then they both should be fired.

if i'm not mistaken, every cup-winning team post-lockout had at least one former cup-winner on their team

(frank)ing leadership PERIOD is a necessity.

when everybody's friends on the team, who's really going to get on somebody's ass?

this team needs a tried and true red-ass.
