first off, it was a follow-up question after schoppsie's idea of bringing in semin was totally shot down...

that being said, you should probably re-listen to it...

regier basically blamed the players, "we have an expression around here, when things go wrong, or don't go the way you want them to, you have to blame sombody."

- b0s0o1[12:14-mark]

it falls on the head coach, "there are few people more convenient to blame then head coaches."

when he mentions the detroit article, it sounds as if it was free agent--singular...no mention of "top players spurning" the wings...

holland acknowledged it and regier said that there is "a lot more of that now"...he continues--back to his original point--that "the coaches take the brunt of it" and he says that it's unfair in general and that "in [ruff's] case, i think it's unfair as well"...

regier finishes his thought by saying that the team, as well as individuals, did not meet expectations and that the criticsm came from that

then schoppsie pushes his point by saying that if it's the direction of the league--players whining about and not wanting to play for "tough" coaches--and directly forces regier to "face it"..."it" being player dissent because of tough coaches in general and ruff in particular

regier heads back to the players, "when things go well, when you win, there are way fewer bumps and bruises and way fewer players in the medical room then there are when you lose. when you're winning players are less likely to complain."

yes, schoppsie there is "some upset walking out the door"

personally, i think regier ripped the whining players more than anything else...

hallelujiah!

The one thing that I thought was interesting on 550 (and mostly by Schopp) is that he thought the idea of the development camp training with the Seals was basically a statement about "we don't care what everyone is saying, this is the way it is".

If you had to guess who do you think we are targeting?
- sabresfandan

My guess would be a Ryan or Getzlaf if were going off of what is supposedly on the market right now. But, with Regier as we all know, it quite likely will be someone leaving us scratching our heads and going 'I didnt know he was available" (ie: Kesler, Thornton, etc..)

He could just never get his team deep in the playoffs. even playing with Marleau and Heatley. What makes you think he can get it done with Vanek and Pominville?

I just don't know..

Honestly, 1 of the 2 big reasons I love having the SEALS involved in this is that I think its going to help this core group of youngsters develop into a much more "mentally tough" group then the core we have had assembled the past few yrs

Yes, I agree.

Which leads to the question of which ones will be shipped out in a trade for an elite player.

Joe Thornton is better than anyone we currently have on the roster by a longshot.

I'm not disagreeing with that; I'm just being devil's advocate I suppose. If Darcy got Thornton, well at least he's trying. So Thornton brings play-off experience. But we still don't have any cup winners on the team.

He's still won more playoff series than this team has won in 5 years.

You said he's never taken his team deep in the playoffs. Getting your team to the Eastern or Western conference finals is going deep in the playoffs.
