You have to really want to win to lay your body down in front of 100 mph shots. I just never saw him quit or say anything that indicated he didn't want to be here. I'm not a huge Z fan I just respected him and I thought this system was all wrong for his style. I didn't think it was lack of effort or heart.
- dbell646

I will give him credit for not making his unhappiness with the system known until after the season. I think he was an ok Dman for his contract and what he did, but even before Scuds elevated himself to mythical status in the Detroit series I had a greater appreciation for his game than Z or Martin. Might have more to do with Scuds growing into a role with the team vs Martin and Z growing out of theirs. Martin and Z were brought in as a solution(which they werent) and Scuds became the solution.

Scuds became THE piece. I think we just had to high of expectations for Z and Martin due to their contracts.

Arizona really is becoming Pitt-West. Look at the Cardinals, it seems like they sign every Steeler's cast off. At one point, werent their starting OLBs Porter and Haggans?

I think most people wouldnt be shocked by the report today given it pointed out easy conclusions to draw.

Yeah.... All I heard today was nothing but a confirmation of the obvious. Something tells me that JoPa statue might mysteriously disappear in the middle of the night. At least they'll get a small fortune in scrap.

Not a big fan off MM, but he has his moments. I'll be listening to his first hour today. I'm assuming if there are any JoPa fans out there, they might not want to do the same.

Not sure if anybody already posted this but its an article on Malkin giving half his 50th goal puck to Mike Kadar for helping him in Russia last summer.
Quote:
"He gave me half of his 50th goal puck and said, 'Thank you for last summer.' I was blown away," Kadar said. "I got emotional about it because I have never experienced that, have never heard of that. I've heard of players giving it to players, but never to a staff member. I was proud of that."

Kadar immediately started showing it around the Penguins offices. He brought it to co-owner Mario Lemieux, whose response was, "What does that tell you about the guy you're dealing with?"

I'm hearing very good things about our defense at Dev. camp. Wonder if nisk, letang, and Orpik are the only D-man from last year that keep their spots

I think Engo keeps his spot in the bottom pairing. His skill-set is needed given Orpik is our only other physical Dman.

What if Shero decides to go with Letang Despres, Morrow Orpik, Nisk Engelland? I'd be very nervous but it would be interesting to watch? You'd have to trade 3 of Martin, Lovejoy, Burtuzzo, and Strait. In that case I would assume they would keep Lovejoy due to cap hit and experience. Martin would be the obvious one at 5 mill.

Would a line of Despres-Morrow work? If so would the line of engelland-nisk work?

As Ben37 brought up earlier, Morrow has a year of Juniors left. He would have to really impress to make the roster.
The most likely scenario involves a minor trade of Bortuzzo or Lovejoy and an opening night 7D of: Orpik, Letang, Martin, Nisk, Engo, Despres, Strait. The other possibility is we lose somebody to waivers which wouldnt be a first.

i dont get this worrying. look, offensively, we arent as good considering we lost staal. but i will take a healthy year of crosby. you're losing all those staal goals but adding 40-50 goals with sid (hopefully)

the players on the defense wont matter if bylsma continues to play that system that got us killed in the playoffs. we have no phyiscal dmen on this roster... besides engelland and i would rather have him as a 7th guy. i would much rather see Despres got a shot with Letang and trade for one or two physical dmen. hopefully oprik shows a lot more than what he showed us in the playoffs.

the goalies have been the biggest improvement. getting vokoun was huge and getting a real solid #2 i think will end up being one of the more underrated moves of the whole summer.

getting these big names like parise, suter, etc. they dont win you championships because any team could go out and target them. it's the smaller depth moves that win you championships. we got burned in the summer of 08 with hossa. we won the cup the next year. we got burned this summer with parise. hopefully history repeats itself.

there is no way this is the team heading into camp. shero knows what this team needs and he will make a move or two.

and i would take knuble. def. not for the top 6, but if you dump kennedy and have that spot open, i say take a look at him. he provides that leadership that we need.
