According to Creasy, the pens aren't on doans radar and now with this phx thing all settled, he will probably be staying there. Mueller signed with the panthers for 1.725 mil for one year. Only decent free agent left is semin, and I still don't really want him here. I think Shero should make a trade for a top 6 winger now

He can only do so much, if the players decide to play out their careers in Minny or Phoenix there is nothing that Shero can do.

He can't control if a player like Doan wants to stay with his current team and play the rest of his career in Phoenix, or he couldn't control Parise wanting to finish up playing at home. Not his fault. Utterly ridiculous for one who thinks it is.

The truth is Shero is a cheap bastard which is a good thing. He's not going to trade away our future...HELL if he thinks he's giving up 0.1% more than the other part in a trade he quits on the idea.

Morrow is out there....Stewart....let's shake things up....

does anyone think t pens are a better team this year than they were last year? how did the team get better? by subtraction? is someone ready in WB/S? no staal, no sullivan, no asham. where is the grit? where is the PK? Cooke? hmmm, mcintyre? engelland? 100M for sid and no consistent wingers? dupuis had a career year, will this year be another career year or was that a one time thing? kind of a disappointing free agency period so far.

dont get me wrong, i am glad they didnt offer 100M to parise. if they have that kind of $, sign geno. but i dont think semin is the answer either. i thought they would have gone after radulov's rights sooner tho. they still need some toughness, someone on PK and a winger on sid's line. nothing in his career performance says its TK opposite dupuis. but that was shero's statement that they would try him there. what?

This is too negative. It's only July. Are they better? Not yet. Ask that question at the beginning of camp. I trust Ray Shero. I don't think he's lost a trade yet and there's a very good chance that's where Sid's winger will be found. People will say he lost the Staal trade, but circumstances dictated that deal and many believe he may have won that one too....time will tell.

The guys we lost are replaceable 'cept Staal and Sutter is not chump change as his replacement. Don't forget, we get a full year of Crosby (knock on wood). He could probably bounce 20 goals off of Tangradi's ass if he needs too.

If you ask me we got the best third line center in the league not named Jordan Staal. Sutter will adequately fill the Staal hole on the third line and the PK, his offense might not be to the same level but his defensive work and PK work will even out to Staals.

Tanner Glass is a better replacement than Asham for that role. I like Asham but Glass is a better player who hits more and is willing to drop the mitts. The team still has Adams and Vitale on that fourth line and if Vitale isn't the right fit 4th line centers are a dime a dozen.

As for Sullivan a healthy Crosby more than makes up for that loss.

Right now the loss of Michalek hurts, but hopefully Despres can come in and fill that gap.

I don't get where all the doom and gloom is coming from. The Penguins still have the best player in the league in Crosby, the reigning Hart and Art Ross winner in Malkin, a 40 goal 80 point winger in Neal, one of the top defensemen in the league in Letang and if Fleury can shake the cobwebs that showed up at the end of the season he is a great goalie. And every team would take guys like Orpik, Kunitz, Sutter, and Dupuis. The core is intact, it's up to Shero to fill the gaps.

I know that everyone wants to see a sexy name next to Crosby, a Kane, Nash, Parise, Ryan, Iginla, Semin, Doan or Alba....wait I drifted, but if you recall Crosby has said a number of times that he likes playing with Dupuis. Besides we've had the pleasure of watching Crosby lead the league in both goals and assists, he doesn't need help.

I think it's coming from boredom... Plus I think most Pens fans thought we would score either Suter or Parise. Not getting either is a letdown. For me, ultimately, I think that will be a good thing down the road. Neither of those players are 100 million dollar players.....period.

I don't think losing Z is that big of a deal. Honestly, out of the two years he played here, I think he had about 4 decent months. I really think he was a bad fit for Bylsma system.

On a positive note... Tiops has done a nice job of reporting on the prospect camp. He's raving about Morrow. Calls him a "special" player. Says Harrington really looks good/mature....says he does everything well. Also said Teddy Bleugger instantly is their second most skilled forward prospect (behind Bennett)

I believe the biggest need for the Pens is grit. It seemed like they got pushed around alot last yr. Wats up with this Glass guy, is he better than Asham?

Your right i want a sexy name next to sid and dupuis isnt it... I cant wait until all this hype about dupes is over... He is not a top 6 winger. Hes a fill in that has shown he cant accept passes from sid, misses the net on easy shots and other things... Im glad he works hard and has speed but shouldnt that be a trait that all players have...

We need guys like doan parise iggy semin etc to play alongside sid not tk dupes cooke.... Im sorry i just dont see how people can sit back and not be mad when we have the cap space and the spots to go after these guys... Im not saying spend a sit ton but atleast entice them to come play here

The doom and gloom comes from getting bounced early 3 strait seasons and the fact this team isn't better than last year. Yes you replaced asham and Sutter will step in defensively but don't forgt Staal was an offensive factor this year and our best player in the playoffs. And we all hope despres steps in to z's spot and plqys well but that remains to be seen. If he isn't capable your looking at like a 24 minute hole in the defens. Also don't tell me you feel comfortable with Tk or tangradi in the top 6. There are glaring holes on this team physicality being the most important. But top 6 is incomplete at the moment. I'm willing to wait until the season starts to pass judgement and I'm personally glad they didn't get Suter and parise but the trades he mad indicated to me that something lose was to follow. Still waiting

Dang, I was hoping we would take a chance with Mueller. We have enough concussion concerns on this team but for a 1 year deal gambles like that could pay huge dividend. Versteeg eh? I think I would be okay with that. What was he making 3.5/year? That wouldn't break the bank either.

I don't think anybody would think Shero is done shaping the roster or that he would feel comfortable with TK and Tangradi on Sid's wings. It's still only mid-July and there's still a lot that needs to "shake" out. Guys like Doan, Semin, Nash and Ryan still need to be resolved.

To your point about replacing Z.... I don't get why people are so willing to give him a pass. He was largely not good in a Pens jersey. 7g,32a, and even are not big shoes to fill. Yes, he was an experienced vet, but even if you look over his numbers with the yotes, they're just not impressive....he's a career -22. Not like Despres will be expected to replace the second coming of Scott Stevens. Still.... I agree the D as whole, leaves a lot to be desired.

Like I said, Crosby likes Dupuis and has developed good chemistry with him. Which is more important than spending money and moving pieces to get a big name to play next to Crosby.

I don't know how much of Team Canada you watched during the Olympics but Crosby struggled playing with the big name guys like Nash, and Iginla. I don't know why, but he couldn't click with those guys. Parise would have been nice, because he thinks and plays a similar style but he's gone.

Name Crosbys wingers from the 09 season, when they won the cup.

plus/minus is the worst stat in hockey I don't put much value in that. He was on our pk and blocked about 150 shots a year while here. I'm not Saying he is Shea Weber but you better have someone ready to eat those minutes and block those same 150 shots. I'm not passing judgement on the roster until the season actually starts. However if people feel its been disappointing up to this point I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment and this team isn't in a better position to win a cup right now then last season. I actually think until a guy like Despres proves he is what we think he is this team is worse. Again neither of us can prove either way until they actually play. And when you move a core player like staal the fan base is looking for you to add another core guy and that hasn't happened and possibly won't.
