The dominoes need to back to dominoeing school because they're not doing their job this year...
- shruew

SB needs to go to gm'ing school because apparently to most here, he's not doing his job this year … or last …or the year before.

I'm tellin' ya, floodgates won't open until Dwight Howard gets traded to Brooklyn.

Campoli is the one gluing up the works here. Once he lands, the rest will fall in place.

If Doan signs somewhere else, then use it.

Because Doan is over 35 doesn't he have one of those "you're on the hook for every cent" contracts that can't be commuted in any way, shape or form? You'd think term would be a sticking point with a lot of teams.
- djd

That's an excellent point and I totally forgot about that. I know it seems unlikely (although I'm not certain about that) if you give him a big contract, and he turns out to be a total dud, that kind of contract could cripple the team for years....it's honestly something to think about. (I really hope they include an amnesty clause in the next CBA....)

I heard on the news today that the petition for the tax in Glendale or whatever missed the deadline

Then Phoenix could be back in play.

Honestly, I don't. I will say though, the job he did in Montreal as GM looked really piss poor.
- EKolb13

Not a great example, but the analogy works...

Jim Hendry now is derided as a failure at GM of the Cubs...
...but is considered a solid baseball man and great scout.

May have been in over his head as GM, but still is a valuable guy to have in an orgainization.

I guess I'm saying that Gauthier's presence in the Hawks organization is not likely a sign of the apocalypse.

That's my fear... Although with Stan as GM I have learned not to expect much anyways I was hoping for Brad Richards last offseason but I'm not even sure we made an honest attempt at bringing him in.

There could be a court fight over this. The petitioners feel they have until July 16th to submit their petitions since the original bill was amended on June 16.

I don't think there will be a flood of anything...

...slow trickle of signings and trades throughout the summer.

Then there's that CBA thing all the kids are talkin' about.

An honest, over-the-top effort would have had the same result.

No way Richards was signing with the Hawks...that was clear from the start.

Some players, and he may be one of them, who have spent their entire careers with one team never seem to be the same when they don new jerseys. See also; Guerin, SJ; Roenick, SJ, Phi., Phx; Forsberg, Nashville.

Time to move on...

Most people who attended a Hawks game had no idea who Norm Maciver was and what a Director of Personnel actually does.

There are enough layers here to make sure everyone fulfills their role.

Going from being a GM to his current position is not a promotion.

Or is it more a case of there are enough layers here to guarantee that nothing can get done in a timely manner?

That's another part of the old CBA that doesn't make any business sense from either side.
