This is a great article pertaining to the ridiculous pay-outs in long term contracts:

My sentiments exactly...

OK Fine!

I think if that deal did go down the Habs would have to add a pick. With the addition of Subban, Leddy could then be traded for ________ _______ with Subban taking over on the power play. Then Hannan could be signed.............

There now I have a headache (but it dosent take much)

I'm about 10 pages in, that's enough.............

JJ, if you were to give a % of if the Hawks have even talked to anyone about Kane what would it be?...... If this trade happens or not to me isn't the main thing as opposed to IF the Hawks have come to a point that they are listening/talking about Kane.... Cuz if they are he will be dealt before his current contract is up. Top 5 hands and vision in the world is hard for a team not to want, and it will only be a matter of time before he's moved.

Great to see some solid Canadien fans responding. Question, didn't Plekenac lose the #1 center spot to undrafted ECHL player David Desharnais maybe half way through the season? Desharnais, who is 4 years younger a bunch cheaper than Plekanec, also had more points and was much, much better in + -.

Also wasn't Subban sat down for a stretch as a healthy scratch?...... I watch the Canadiens every chance I get, just to see Price play so I'm going off of way more than numbers.

My point is not all is roses with these two players, and there may be as much reason to look to move these two as there are for the Hawks to look at offers for Kane.

I do agree that Subban is overrated, but that isn't to say he doesn't have an elite ceiling. I think when the sharp ones gush over him it's more a projection, but his numbers now are solid. I guess he's a handful for the coaches, has way to high of PIM numbers, will fight but is at best a lower tier middleweight...... But the kid brings grit, effort and as a a 22 year old has played two full season skating top minutes. he skated 24 minutes a game, 3:30 PP and 2:30 SH... Those are big and important minutes for a 22 year old.

Plekanec at 30 years old is no doubt the #2 the hawks covet. Lotta skill, but as I mentioned believe he lost the #1 centerman slot, and at 5 mil per ain't real cheap.

Damn tough call. MTL would get a super steady young Dman in Hammer signed for a nice number and a world class talent in Kane. IF Kane were to be shocked into playing near his ceiling due to being traded MTL would have an 80-90 point player for at least a decade.

Tough call on both ends.

Subban was a healthy scratch for 1 game, I'm not sure I'd call that a stretch. He struggled a bit early in the season last year and started trying to do to much, A lot of sophomore players go through the same thing.

After being scratched for 1 game he settled down and found his game again. He was very strong for the second half of the season, (logging an average of 24:16 per game for tops on the Montreal roster) The only way I see Montreal moving him is if theyre having trouble getting him signed.

A problem in Montreal and Toronto is young players get puffed up before their time. Subban is quite an athlete and too young to give up on as a top 2-3 defender.

Thanks for responding.... I do remember he was sat down, just didn't remember for how long......

And Plekanec did lose the #1 centerman slot to Desharnais, correct? Love that little dude by the way. Being undrafted coming up through the ECHL this is a guy who takes zero for granted and his game shows that in spades.

As is Kane?

Is Subban a type that Montreal sees as an enigma, like Kane, but for different reasons?

Al, do your sources say that Kane is even talked about to other teams by the Blackhawks? As I mentioned earlier that is more important to me than any names being talked about coming back. Cuz if he is eventually moved much will come back, regardless of names mentioned.

We are talking about a talent that IF his ceiling is reached has the skills for a decade long of 80-90 points. Of course he could be in rehab too and be a bum. Therein lies the rub.

It was more a case of the second line took over as the first line. Plekanec was with Gionta and Cammellari (among other) the year before too, but injuries and poor coaching pretty much destroyed the effectiveness of the line. Cole, Desharnais and Pacioretty clicked mid season (Desharnais was Pacioretty's center in junior) and became the defacto 1st line.

That being said Plekanec is better suited for 2nd line duty. He's a very solid 2 way forward and easily Montreal's best penalty killer. Eller is developing into the same kind of player so I would be ok with Plekanec being moved for the right deal, but I would not be ok with them moving Subban. It already makes me sick to my stomach seeing McDonagh playing for the rangers knowing we gave him up in the Gomez trade

If it's anything like SB's UFA signings Q'll wait for all the good ones to sign before he picks one.
