how is he going to "work"? we have 4 other players that can do his 4th line job just as effectively. Its a depressing disappointing sign. - MartysBetter88

As much as you guys all seem to hate fighting it is still part pfof the gaem and barch is a better player then janssen so why get worked up about having another fighter at like 650 for a year or two I for one like watching fights and seeing my teams players kick a little a** or talk a bit of sh*t its entertaining that said I perfectly fine with barch although i am a big prust fan |

Lou's being patient with his options right now. I know you're at the edge of your seat wanting to figure out how the gaps are going to be filled, note that he has to go to his scouts and really get a good grade on the guy's game and see if that player would fit in well with the organization.
Kyle Wellwood has always been an "undeveloped talent". The report earlier was correct: he has great hands, very very slick, but he's been out of shape and motivation is a big question mark around him. Ponikarovsky had that problem as well, and the Devils brought him and he played extremely well for them. So maybe he would be viable for a depth role and extremely affordable.
Making panic moves is what got Lou strapped to contracts that may have been less than ideal (Tallinder's, for example) and the ones in the past (McGillis, Malakhov).
Losing Parise and what he brings changes his game plan around because they played Parise's brand of chase-em-down and cycle the puck hockey. DeBoer mya have to alter the game plan to see what kind of game the Devils are going to play this year, evaluate whether it can be successful in the current brand of NHL, and see what kind of players he can bring in to make it happen. Likely little will change, but let the genius work! |

We really didn't have the room. Our 4th line is set, unless we gave him 3rd line minutes. But that makes our offensive depth very thin. |

Seeing wellwood play for the Jts this year, greta vision and play making ability, isnt a goal scorer pass first player. He can take faceoffs but is best suited for the wings (lacks size ans strength) His down falls is he will never hit, doesnt cycle and isn't great defensively maybe even to a point through fans eyes lazy? I think is ups and downs even it out, maybe he could replace Sykora? |

It's important to look at the future beyond just this upcoming season. Look, i'm upset as everyone else on here, but the last thing I want Lou do is panic cuz we lost Parise and go out and Sign Wellwood, Mueller, Kostitsyn or Semin to 10 year deals. It won't work. The team is in tough shape financially due to the debt anyway. I say, let this play out, give guys like Tedenby and Josefson bigger roles, and if need be, make moves at the deadline via trade. We'll have the cap space to do that. Next years free agent market is supposed to be really good anyways, right? |

This is true, but how many of those guys are actually going to be free agents and not re-signed? |

And on top of all that, how many do you think the Devils will actually get? Aside players that already played for the organization, their FA track record hasn't been that great. |

I don't think we want any of those players for more than 2 years, at which point, there is little risk. |

idk why we wouldn't want Mueller, and why we haven't signed him yet. its a no risk high reward player. He won't cost us a lot because of the injury history, but when healthy can be a top 6 player. He doesn't seem lazy/without drive. idk why not. |

If Lou doesn't sign anyone, then who do you think he targets in the trade market. He is obviously isn't going to try to trade for Ryan or Nash, but he will probably grab the second-tier guys that have lower values, an example being Gionta, but he probably won't get traded.
I don't really know who else we would trade for, only guys like Gagner, Vrbata, etc, but no one knows if they will or won't be traded. |
