He didn't take too many though. - rmdevil313
I didn't realize that. I looked at all of his goals from last season and the prior season with the Sharks, all were like rebounds and deflections, similar to Parise's goals.
I didn't realize his stats. Could be a perfect third line center that could fill in on the second line. Only question is whether JJ would be able to adjust to the wing, or else he'd be on the fourth line. - _Zippy_
idk about 2nd line, but could help out on the 3rd. I bet Lou does nothing. freaking Barch was what we got. ridiculous.

I didn't get Todd's indication that Sykora might leave as well. Do we know anything about his situation? - ElvisLemieux
Not at all. He's flown under the radar. From what he said and the fact that he hasn't signed elsewhere yet, either there isn't any offers or he really wants to be back in NJ. I'm leaning towards the latter. After all, Zidlicky and Elias are his two best friends so it's basically a perfect scenario for him.
Top line will be our scoring line, and I think Wellwood could do well setting up Kovy. Elias-Zajac-Zubs will be a legit shutdown line with a center that can win faceoffs. Elias and Zubs did good against top competition last year, and that was with Sykora. Teddy and JJ get to play with Clarkson, who will at the very least keep them working hard and offer someone with grit to help them.

Don't know how good Wellwood is, aside from reading/looking at stats. I guess when Bowkes comes back he would know better than we would having been a Jets fan as well.

Good puck control and reads the play well, I always liked him as a Leaf, better than some guys we currently have.

He's got good hands, is more of a playmaker but can still finish, but plays a bit too passive at times.

Wellwood is fine, moderate size and hands, but is he really what the Devils need? Never scored 20 goals. Bounced around the NHL the last few years.
He'll be cheap, which is nice. Not sure that's the point though. - ElvisLemieux
More of a stop gap idea. He will replace some scoring and provide us with a reliable option. Better than relying on a bottom six of Tedenby, Josefson, Bernier, Gionta, Carter, Barch/Janssen, this gives us a solid option. There's no top six forwards on the market that are ideal. Semin carries too much baggage, Doan isn't coming here, the next best thing is the third line forward that maybe could play second line minutes. Guys like Mueller, Sykora, Kostisyn and, although the ship has sailed and I doubt they come back to NJ, Rolston, Langenbrunner, and Arnott.

Mueller is our best bet at this point. .. what about both Mueller and Wellwood? NO NO NO NO.... LETS GO AND GET BARCH!!!! he sure fills a need!
stop gap for who? its not like we're waiting for any prospects to suddenly be 30 goal scorers..
I wish Tedenby had Henrique's hockey sense.. and size, but even just the smarts. . He'd be able to get the puck to Kovy and set up so many plays.

Dude are you still going with Barch? He's a fourth line forward, it's just like people getting pissed at the Pikkarainen signing, if he works, (frank)ing great, if he doesn't, he can sit on the bench.

how is he going to "work"? we have 4 other players that can do his 4th line job just as effectively. Its a depressing disappointing sign.

It's not like we're paying him 5 million to play the fourth line. I would be shocked if it was over 750k. It's a no-risk signing, just get over it.
