on a 1 year deal, who really cares if you overpay a bit, as long as you have the cap space.

i mean what's the difference between 5 and 6.5 mil, over 1 year, if you have like 10 mil in cap space.

IMO, it's better to "overpay" on a 1 year deal (with a "questionable" player), then it is to lock in longer term, for slightly less money.

ie., with semin, i would prefer 1 year at 6.5-7, then 4 years at 5 mil.

Agreed in a way - the only thing with overpaying him is that it empowers him to believe that he is better than he is.

For the record, I think he will do very well in Pittsburgh playing a style which is more suited to his abilities (more like the 2007-2010 Caps). I'd like to see him sign in Detroit

If it is a one-year deal, will be interesting to see the $'s. He was overpaid in DC - wonder if the Pens will be willing to pay what the Caps did.

I am fine with a 1 year deal. Probably a good idea for both sides at this juncture. If he screws this up, his value will probably never recover for a number of years, if at all.

Semin on a 1-year deal would be a smart and great signing for you guys.

I hope the reports aren't true.

1 year is fine, but I would be happy with a 4 year 4.5 type deal too.

If this is true, I'm fine with a 1 year deal also. Low risk/High reward situation. I was hoping for a physical player next to Sid, but no doubt Semin has talent. Pick up Iggy at the deadline and that would be one sick line.

If he screws it up his next stop is the KHL.

Has this been confirmed or is it just a e4 or some $hit meaning, maybe?

You guys have come a long way since the "I don't want this guy anywhere near this roster" and "Shero wouldn't sign this kind of player"

Hahaha just trying to stay positive if we do end up signing him, there is no way to know, he is def an enigma type player, but he will certainly be better then kovalev, without a doubt...the talent the guy has is very appealing, we just need geno and sid to whip his a$$ in shape, and maybe england and McCintyire can teach him how to throw a punch, hahaha

Im not enamored with it but the Penguins have the leverage at least. With Washington he was too comfortable in his own skin. If he is on a line with Sid or Malkin and screws it up, its gonna hurt him more than the Penguins (assuming its a 1 year deal).

It is funny though haha

Thirty-three year old Brenden Morrow is reportedly available. Would Ottawa have any interest? 33G/23A in healthy 2010-2011 season.

That's what happens when you lose out on a guy like Parise and you're left looking at a line of Sid, Kennedy and Dupuis.

No doubt. Asham and Rupp certainly are two guys in recent memory that are extremely good people who just so happen to have a knack for re-arranging faces
