if the team was to be guaranteed to make NO other moves, and in this hypothetical scenario, semin was the only addition possible, would you guys take a flyer or still pass?

I'd rather have him be a Flyer.

I wish I could get Ilya Kovalchoke's thoughts on this topic...but I don't think anyone can find him after that disappearing act in the Finals.

Talk to me about the disappearing act of the dude Peter Lav called "the best player in the world" did in round two?

Devils shut him down so well. Think he only got one even strength point.

perhaps i am letting desperation get the better of me with trying to rationalize a one year deal as malkins wing haha or rather i am just scared of the fact that kennedy is going to be a fist line winger

Semin would fit right in with the softness of the team

That could be a very legitimate fear, however TK has scored well before, and he did some very good things for the team, but he just didnt get the statistical results. Bylsma said many times that he felt he was doing positive things for the team even if he wasnt scoring. I think he will play better on the last year of his deal

Alex Semin is NOT a one-dimensional player; in fact, he's quietly one of the most talented two-way players in the NHL. Someone is going to get a steal with this guy. He ranked 13th in the NHL in GA20 (goals against per 20 minutes of 5 on 5 play) and 5th in GF20 (same, just goals for). Nobody else has that good a combination.

Semin has his issues, but to call him a one-dimensional player is just patently false and lazy, because the numbers are right there which prove that he's, in fact, a top-notch two-way forward. Again, some team is going to get lucky with this guy.

He would be signed already for multiple years if your claim was half true.

There is a reason why no one is really that interested in signing him, including the Islanders who NEED skill on that roster.

Does anyone know if or how close geno and semin are? I know they were tearing it up at the worlds, were they on the same line?

By the way, its probably wrong of me, but when I picture Semin, I go back to his "fight" against marc staal where staal is turtled and semin is pretty much open hand slapping him, its pretty funny if you havent seen it...

New here by the way but have been lurking for a while, still play hockey and referee amateur and scholastic(high school and college(but not ncaa, yet)) hockey here in the burg, hello all

Not sure of their closeness, or anything, but you would have to imagine Neal would play with Crosby and Semin would play with Malkin.

No no no don't sign him I would rather sign doan for the rest of the pens cap room than to get semin. Can he score yes of course can he forecheck or play any type of defense no. He wouldnt be good in the locker room either.

If he plays well, I'd rather him be a Red Wing, if he's not a Penguin that is. Let's empty the Flyer's...I mean redheaded stepchildren's talent pool not fill it

Just look at the numbers. They don't lie. The guy has a lot more talent than anyone gives him credit for. I would have posted the entire "Hockey Analysis" article on him, but we're apparently not allowed to post links from other sites here. As an Islanders fan, I'd love to have him riding shotgun for JT and Moulson. When he's on his game, he's a top 10-15 forward in the NHL.

I personally would much rather Doan over Semin, I think Doan will probably stay put, however i could see him playing with sid and dupuis and he would fit in very well, people were saying he can't skate well enough to play with sid but I dont buy it, he has been one of Phoenixs best players since their start...only thing is he would be going from wearing the C to most likely nothing, and he could only hope to wear the A with us, maybe, some day, but probably not even that...

Plus, if he were to go to the KHL, and radulov is somehow making 9 mill USD, Semin would be able to get closer to at least 12 mill...I think he realizes that the NHL is much better than the KHL...but if he is lazy, homesick, doesnt want to hit anyone or block any shots or whatever, the KHL would be perfect for him

Yeah, it's because of his motivation. Again, he's got issues, but just saying he's some one-dimensional scrub is inaccurate. He's better than that when he's on his game, which is why if he signs some 1 year deal for this season, that team is likely to get great numbers out of him. Is he the next Gretzky? Obviously not. He's just a lot better than people give him credit for.

Thats ridiculous! Do you watch hockey?

Neal(sniper)-Crosby(playmaker)-Dupuis(two-way)
Kunitz(two-way/NFP)-Malkin(playmaker)-Semin(sniper)

Yes please. Would be a great fit and he's the type of player Shero likes to go after (Roberts, Rechi, Guerin). He fits right in with that group. A grizzly vet with great leadership and can still play. I think we were missing that last year.

IMO, Semin would be a great fit with the Pens. He has put up similar numbers to Parise, and would cost about 3.5 million less.

A line with Semin-Malkin-Kunitz/Neal would be very scary. And thats why I want him to sign with Detroit.

Haha, I just don't see the point. Why get a winger that plays a sniper role for Crosby if youre going to play him with Malkin. Ludicrous. He plays with Malkin. Neal plays with Sid. Thats how it works.

Not one person has any problem stating the raw talent Semin has.

And how often is he "on his game"?

There's no chance they would separate Neal and malkin is what I was trying to say especially for semin. It doesn't fit. If they did bring semin in it would be for malkin. There's acctually no reason I should be reading this any way there's is no chance the pens sign this scrub.

To be fair he has averaged about .88 PPG for his carrer. He had a down year last year, but the entire Washington offense did.
