Just took in day one of camp.

And I preface this by saying that, yes, I know it's only day one.

Foligno, wearing number 17 (hmmm?), was clearly the best of the bunch. He looks a bit thicker, but he also looks a lot quicker. He put the puck in the back of the net what seemed like 20 times. The boy has turned into a man, and let me tell you, he's ready to make a statement.

Girgensons is ALL hustle. He barks a lot, very vocal. Good skater, decent hands, goes to the net hard, although a few of his passes were off the mark.

Grigorenko has some mad skill, and an even better skating stride. There were times when he had to wait for his teammates to catch up to him. Some sick moves put on display by the kid. Looks like he could stickhandle through a plate of spaghetti. Big boy, too. Sign him, Darcy.

Corey Finehage also impressed. You can see he's a "take-no-crap", meat and potatoes D-man. But he has some good wheels for a kid his size.

Armia loves to shoot, and loves even more to score. Wicked, wicked wrist shot. Along with Grigs, Foligno and Girgs, Armia was clearly the best of the first group.

Pysyk looked a bit nervous, but he is as smooth as butter. Skates like Teppo.

Just a try out! Roy and Grigorenko were having a bunch of laughs and a good time. Roy scored one sick highlight reel goal on the shootout that looked kind of like this.

http://youtu.be/50DF2BKyukg

Pysyk, Leduc, McCabe, and McNabb are all likely playing in Rochester this year. Kea looked okay. Solid in front of the net, needs to work on catching those hard passes.

Joel Armia was also there. He definitely uses his size to his advantage. He protected the puck after being fed by Grigorenko and buried his wrister.

Looking forward to go tomorrow!

loving the sound of these kids...

Hey.. you know.. for all we know... maybe Darcy was waiting until this camp to see what he has in these kids before trading them away for bigger pieces or realizing that he might have a roster player or two right under his nose.

Do we have Frederick Roy or was he just trying out?? i don't remember seeing his name in any reports...

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't Pysyk, Leduc and McCabe all in Rochester this year??

What about Keo or Kea? the 6'4 245 lb center?

- JVince11

McCabe isn't signed yet.

And,yes, that was Frederick Roy, Patrick's son, on the ice. He was a teammate of Grigs. Put up 92 points in Jr. Very tiny, almost Ennis-like size. And nowhere near as good a skater. Good puck skills, but clearly would have to spend some time in the AHL, if we sign him.

also.. needs to be said..

even while was 35 points in 35 games.. which was a sweet pace..

we were atleast what 5 games under .500 when he got hurt??

and after he got hurt we found our grove and took philly to 7 games in the playoffs.

If Roy was there the whole year i don't think we do that.. let alone make the playoffs.

- JVince11

I'm not a big Roy fan, but we made a run with him in the lineup last year. So IMO that debunks the idea that him getting hurt was the reason we went on a big run 2 years ago.

Regardless, hes gone so it doesnt really matter anymore

5 games under .500 is not bad. one good week and they are above .500

Miller had a lot to with why the team was winning when roy wasnt playing. The same reason we went a run this year.

Armia loves to shoot, and loves even more to score. Wicked, wicked wrist shot. He had one play where he held off the D-man covering him with one arm, controlled the puck with his free arm, and drilled home a wrist shot. Looked like an NHL player, for sure. Along with Grigs, Foligno and Girgs, Armia was clearly the best of the first group.

Pysyk looked a bit nervous, but he is as smooth as butter. Skates like Teppo.

Pretty sure McCabe isn't signed yet. So, unless they sign him, he will be going back to play in college.

My biggest surprises out of Groups 1+2 in camp were Philip Varone, Linus Ullmark, Daniel Catenacci, and Kevin Sundher.

The pleasant surprises being Grigorenko, Armia, Girgensons, and our young defensive core as a whole. Amerks are STACKED this year.

I wish youd have said Grigorenko was a man amongst boys but if those others look the best then we could be in for some trouble.
