Right, so since Crosby only put up 37 points, then he didnt contribute offensively to his team this year, much like Roy didnt contribute offensively two years ago. This is your argument not mine.

So, why are you telling him he "doesnt get it" when he pointed that out?

- theblueandgold

He did contribute but he would've contributed more had he played 82 games.

well i'm off to lunch. i will pray that we don't blow up the team while i'm gone. we will be fine with no more moves. we have a solid team. we could be the leafs, have a horrible team and have to move some of their top players for nash. will that make them a better team? no. same applies for us, giving up some of our top players for 1 player will not help this team. ponder on that while i am gone.

one more move, lizzy, third-line center...prefer arnott, but a guy like wellwood will suffice

One is paid to play at least 82 games so I would agree.

but they arent playing poker. The possibilty of an injury is to be expected.

agreed, however, she was just saying that had he played a full season, there would have been more offense.

I'm not trying to get in a pissing match with anyone I was just backing up her point.

Well, I just got back from Day 1 of Sabres Camp. Grigorenko is the real deal. Patrick Roy's son Frederick Roy was also there wearing Gerbe's number. He's got some serious skill. My biggest pleasent surprise was Ullmark. He looked great in net! We got some great talent in the pipe-line. The D was pretty solid too. Pysyk, McNabb, Leduc, McCabe.. they all looked NHL ready.

i'll argue that even when roy was at or near a point/game player, the sabres record as a team was not playoff worthy (2007/8, 2008/9, the early part of 2010/11)...

is that his fault? ...probably not, but fact is, the team wasn't winning with him and his offensive contributions

- b0s0o1

Youre right, it wasnt his fault. We all came down hard on our best offensive player because we had the weakest bottom 6 ever that didnt provide a well rounded team and the secondary scoring we needed to succeed.

When Roy, Pommer were on the third line as rookies, they provided that perfect secondary scoring that well rounded teams have. When we lost Drury and Briere they became our top players and we didnt have secondary scoring to support them with. They held up their end of their deal and scored like top line players do.

But, lets blame our best offensive player, single him out, call him the cancer, call him the reason our other players cant produce, blame the teams failures on him and pitchfork to get him out of town. Its the same cycle. It has been for years. Someone new will be that person when/if we fail next year.

i'm confused...grigorenko is a scorer, girgensons is a two-way player
- b0s0o1

well then that makes my point even stronger. why put a scorer on the third line that has to play defense against the other teams 1st line? i believe i remember during the draft they said grig plays a two way game. much more offensive than girgenson though.

majority of people here have him playing third line minutes which doesnt make any sense.

She didn't say he didn't produce though. She said no production was really lost, which over an 82 game stretch, is true in a way.

I do get your point though, I do. I'm just trying to have others understand hers.

That's all.

edit: well she originally did say that, but she didn't mean it like that

also.. needs to be said..

even while was 35 points in 35 games.. which was a sweet pace..

we were atleast what 5 games under .500 when he got hurt??

and after he got hurt we found our grove and took philly to 7 games in the playoffs.

If Roy was there the whole year i don't think we do that.. let alone make the playoffs.

But they didnt play 82 games, so you have to judge them on how they did in the games they played. If Derek Roy had 9 points in 35 games before he got injured, yeah he didnt contribute nothing. But he was the leading scorer through the 35 games he got injured.

In the span that he scored those 37 points, Im willing to bet he was the top contributor. Much like Derek Roy was in the 35 games he played. So to say the season he played 35 games and didnt contribute is false. You have to judge him based on the games he actually played.

Just took in day one of camp.

And I preface this by saying that, yes, I know it's only day one.

Foligno, wearing number 17 (hmmm?), was clearly the best of the bunch. He looks a bit thicker, but he also looks a lot quicker. He put the puck in the back of the net what seemed like 20 times. The boy has turned into a man, and let me tell you, he's ready to make a statement.

Girgensons is ALL hustle. He barks a lot, very vocal. Good skater, decent hands, goes to the net hard, although a few of his passes were off the mark.

Grigorenko has some mad skill, and an even better skating stride. There were times when he had to wait for his teammates to catch up to him. Some sick moves put on display by the kid. Looks like he could stickhandle through a plate of spaghetti. Big boy, too. Sign him, Darcy.

Corey Finehage also impressed. You can see he's a "take-no-crap", meat and potatoes D-man. But he has some good wheels for a kid his size.

Armia loves to shoot, and loves even more to score. Wicked, wicked wrist shot. He had one play where he held off the D-man covering him with one arm, controlled the puck with his free arm, and drilled home a wrist shot. Looked like an NHL player, for sure. Along with Grigs, Foligno and Girgs, Armia was clearly the best of the first group.

Pysyk looked a bit nervous, but he is as smooth as butter. Skates like Teppo.

Just a try out! Roy and Grigorenko were having a bunch of laughs and a good time. Roy scored one sick highlight reel goal on the shootout that looked kind of like this.

http://youtu.be/50DF2BKyukg

Pysyk, Leduc, McCabe, and McNabb are all likely playing in Rochester this year. Kea looked okay. Solid in front of the net, needs to work on catching those hard passes.

Joel Armia was also there. He definitely uses his size to his advantage. He protected the puck after being fed by Grigorenko and buried his wrister.

Looking forward to go tomorrow!
