there are many things that come with playing for the Leafs that will surely save him some money too, though. Do players not get a portion of jersey sales? (actually have no idea).
- noename09

No.

And in fact, the teams don't really, either. They get $x from the sale of jersey rights, split evenly amongst all teams.

The only extra $ the teams get is if they sell it in their own arenas, so they make the retail profit.

Pretty sure that would be cap circumvention.

No income tax I believe.
- weirdoh

No State income tax.

Which is typically about 5% or less in the US.

So it's a consideration, to be sure, but not a huge one.

Luongo has one true choice and it's Florida. Luongo keeping the door open on places like Chicago or Toronto is to help Gillis create a market for him so he can squeeze Florida for more than spare parts.
- Two_For_Truth

That's sure nice of him.

I don't think I would be that nice with a gold medal around my neck and taking the team to game 7 of the cup final 300 days before. Unless I was injured. But then I probably wouldn't want out because they had a good reason to pull me.
However Lu wants out.

Hence why nobody wants to give him up.

Let's face it, over the next 5 years, we're gonna find Getz provides more tools in the drive to get this team into, and through the playoffs.

Grabs, with his playing style, is one ride through the trolly tracks away from a concussion or knee surgery

But in Toronto, his potential for endorsements is much higher.

Because nobody in Florida would know who he is, let alone care.

Less than $250,000, when you factor in your agent's cut, etc.

Leafs get the money from jersey sales. It's the perk of being the Toronto Maple Leafs. Make money after more money after more money only having to pay one small sum to the player each year.

Link?

I'm not calling you an ugly liar with bad breath, but all I've ever read is that back in the end of April, the press all reported he was going to give Gillis a list of teams.

Haven't heard anything since.

Out of Luongos mouth...

"My contract's set," Luongo said. "It is what it is and maybe that's a bit of a handicap for me right now as far as … how many teams are really in my services. There are a few teams on there that I would be willing to look at, but obviously Florida is my home in the offseason and it makes sense for family reasons. At the end of the day it's for hockey also. There's not many years left in my career even though I have a long contract, and I want to be focused on having a chance to do something."

“I think playing in a hockey market is great. My preference for sure,” said Luongo. “Sometimes, playing in a place like Florida, the anonymity is nice. To go somewhere, maybe have a dinner with your family and able to relax and stuff.

“When you’re on the ice, you want to be playing in a building that’s rocking. That’s sold out. The fans are passionate about their team. That’s what you want as a hockey player.”

It's not nice as much as it is good business. Both Gillis and Luongo want to get this done but both sides need something from each other. Gillis needs a good return and Luongo needs to go back to Florida. By helping each other, they help themselves.

Luongo will say nice things about every potential suitor but there's only one place he really wants to go and that's Florida. If they were a playoff team six years ago and got the money he gets now, he would have never left. Now, they're a playoff team and he has his money. It's a pressure free market where he can do no wrong and it's where his wife is from. It's quite obviously destination #1 for him.

Alright then...but Im sure he would get much more money in endorsements etc playing for the Leafs than playing for Florida....

Maybe to a little piece of poop like you.

I go through that much coke a year.

Partying with stewardesses and models.

And I would have been willing to invite Schultz, too, but that little dirtbag chose Edmonton.

Given the shape of the pool in my back yard, that was a poor choice.
