and by one season you actually mean the last 2 seasons.
- Big_Lightnin

2nd in scoring both years where he apparently had a down years. Hell this season he played with Penner-lite David Jones and an ancient Milan Hejduk and only for about 20 games. Stick him with Lup and Kessel, salivatory.

With all these centers, why does Carlyle want to try JVR there too?
- NickTheKid87

..cause they suck?

Moreso, can Lupul match last season and stay healthy, Can Reimer bounce back, Is Gardiner going to go into a sophmore jynx this season, so many questions on our club right now and were not good enough for the playoffs yet, we have a couple months thou, lets see if burkie can "significantly" improve our club.

The only upside if we do squeak into the playoffs is the team is so young they need to know what the pressure feels like, we can have the best team in the league but the playoff atmosphere is a totally different animal that takes much learning

- MindFr3eak

Additions of JVR should off-set and drop off from Lupul.

That said, Lupul's a 25G guy his whole career playing essentially 2nd line, 2nd PP minutes. The point bump can be attributed to premium ice-time, which he will get again next year.

no reason to think he will drop off significantly.

cause 3.5 of them suck? and none of them will ever be a #1C. It has yet to be proven that JVR will never be a #1C.
- Big_Lightnin

Good point. Unfortunately I can't see JVR being a true #1 center. I think he'll just end up back at wing.

I think so to, but the right price isn't going to be a bag of pucks. Depth down the middle is proving to be the key to cups and having Stastny/Duchene/O'Reilly is elite depth.

I agree. The big question, can JVR shake the injury bug. If he can't, this team will struggle.

Because the Leafs do not have a number one center, and barely have a number three center.

I don't see it working either, it's worth a try though unless we get a real center. His faceoff numbers trouble me which is actually a pretty big part of the game. Also if he is supposed to develop into an amazing power-forward he should do it on the wing.

Avs can't afford $6.6M for 50-60pts. They've got money troubles. They won't get raped on a trade, but they won't hit a home run either.

Toronto needs a big gritty guy to play with Kessel. Stastny isnt really that.

I love JVR and I think he could easily put up 60 points if he can manage to stay healthy. He was on pace for 30+ goals before a concussion sidelined him. Then he hurt his back and foot. Last year wasn't representative of how far JVR's game has progressed IMO.

I've never said you're UG.

I've made my points about why the Leafs aren't a lottery team several time here today.

I don't think the Leafs were really as bad as they finished last year. 3 wins puts them in 10th. Improve the PK 2%, and they pick up those 3 wins.

Not that big of a stretch. They need a boost to get into the playoffs via significant trade, but they aren't a lottery team next year - Carlyle's defensive style will bring GA down, and the offense will still be there, might even be improved if JVR and Kulemin both have decent years.

If he would have played the whole year with Giroux I think he would have put up 30 too. How many concussions has he had? Just the one?

Desperation comes to Mind, you had alot of centers when JVR was there, we have squat, It won't be a test that lasts long, they wont let him lose faceoffs and struggle for long in that position, he can either do it really quickly or the experiment ends IMO.
