we need another phaneuf esq trade, piling up 4-5 players for 1+ prospect/pick. - big_dion
That would be the one component, that would change my mind about the Leafs being a playoff team, this year. I feel that Burke has lost his mojo, and I'm not talking about AM640 either. He doesn't seem to have the stomach to pull the trigger on a high risk, high reward type deal. |

Duchene is Avs first line centre...
Anyone see the rumours on twitter (I know its probably BS) that the Leafs offered Grabs, Kuli and a 1st for Getz... - BoBBeR56
Duchene was a steaming pile of crud last year, O'Reilly may have broken out but until he can prove it again he's still the third line centre, as for Stastny aside from one season he has pretty much lead his team every year in scoring. |

I'm actually fine with the Riemer/Scriven tandem and think they deserve a shot.
I can live without a number one centre with the hopes we can add one after the season when our useless contracts expire.
What I CANT live with is the absolute lack of NASTINESS.
The team is way too soft to play Carlyles tough, hard forechecking, defensive system. - Barx
Yup, and i see the team going backwards right now. Although there are a few characters coming up through the pipeline that could add some nastiness, they are just to far away. |

I'd like to see Burkie try to snag Peter Holland from Anaheim.
Can't see how they could trade Getzlaf, but might be able to get Holland for say Franson and a 2nd? (or Lombardi ) |

agree.
three unaddressed gaping holes:
1)first line centre
2)grit/toughness/ferocity
3)goaltending
Will Burke address them before the puck drops? If not, I can't see anything better than last years finish. - Barx
Moreso, can Lupul match last season and stay healthy, Can Reimer bounce back, Is Gardiner going to go into a sophmore jynx this season, so many questions on our club right now and were not good enough for the playoffs yet, we have a couple months thou, lets see if burkie can "significantly" improve our club.
The only upside if we do squeak into the playoffs is the team is so young they need to know what the pressure feels like, we can have the best team in the league but the playoff atmosphere is a totally different animal that takes much learning

It would be stupid for Burke to trade for Getzlaf now, the cost would be very high. He will be a UFA after next season, and if he is going to market, he can try and get him for free. If he is going to re-sign, then we probably couldn't get him anyways with out a ridiculous overpayment in a trade.
There is no other options that will not cost a boatload and bring us back to the Kessel trade.
There is a chance the leafs could make the playoffs without doing much more, they were in a good position before the stupid crazy collapse, we really only need to play .500 hockey down the stretch and would have had enough point to get in.
If not, sell any assets we can at the deadline for picks and go for #1 pick |

Well...considering your ability to mimic exactly what another user with a 1.5 year ban does...word everything exactly the same, push the same type of points and avoid any point that just might prove you wrong; it's a pretty obvious flag.
No PM's are necessary, you and I have had many PM's and I know you will never own up to anything.
You babble on about how there's absolutely nothing positive in leaf-land and everything every other team does is worth mentioning as a positive step, and you're doing this in a Leafs blog with a Carolina Hurricanes tag as favourite team...you really don't see any issues here?
And again...you continue to avoid my original point. - Juice
PM me and we can straighten this out, right now. |

Considering the Leafs were in the playoff hunt for so long, I would say, with the minor additions so far and a better coach, their odds should be decent to get a pl ayoff appearance.
I would hazzard to say a total meltdown like they experienced would be RATHER hard to duplicate.... - noename09
A complete system change to an offensive system like the leafs and the amount of youth could be a knuckleball this year, here's hoping the youth catch on really quick.

For Getzlaf. That would be my asking price if I'm ANA. - fidopro
He's a pending UFA. I wouldn't give that up for him when you can try and sign him as a free agent, unless Anaheim re-signs him of course. Plus, I don't think they really want to move him anyway. The only guy I could see being moved is Stastny and the package you laid out it way more than he's worth, IMO. |

Duchene is 21...and had an injury riddled season...he is their #1 guy going forward...
Stastny has had two down seasons in a row...not just one...
If the Avs can get a decent return for Stastny, I believe they would flip him... |

cause 3.5 of them suck? and none of them will ever be a #1C. It has yet to be proven that JVR will never be a #1C.
