1)Colby Armstrong is gone
2) The Monster is gone
3) JVR

Its a good thing the season doesn't start July 10th!
Burke has more tricks up his sleeve, he's just letting the Market Marinate

Patience This Roster will be Competitive Next year

- billyberg10

1)Armstrong didn't play and is a non factor.
2)Played better than any other goalie last season.
3)potential, yes. instant upgrade?not until he learns defensive hockey.

I love how you say this as if its a positive thing.
This guy is funny.

Maybe the Leafs should have grabbed Montoya, as a backup. Again, the Leafs did nothing, to shore up their two gaping holes. No consistant goaltender, no number one centre, no upgrade in the grit department. If anything, they have less grit, with Schenn gone. JVR is an upgrade, on the second line, but it's not enough to get them out of 15th in the conference.

I rather Scrivens and Reimer over Montoya....but there's this swedish goalie this year that UG told me about that I think I want the Leafs to sign to play with Owuya.

Where is Watertown, NY? I think my friend is from there, his name is Frank Rizzo

But Bobrovski with his 12 or so games on Reimer is the lord of proven goaltending

Solid logic and the true meaning of what anti-leafs fans live off each and every day.

Where's the benefit is signing Montoya? To slow Reimer or Scriven's progression?

I'm not UG, but wish he was here to talk some sense into you Maple Leaf lemmings, who blindly follow the Ministry of Propaganda, at MLS&E.

Why exactly does it bother people how/why they follow their favorite sports team...which its sole purpose is to provide entertainment?

If fans want to believe they can win the cup next year with a few additions, or if they feel they'd rather see a team be torn down and rebuilt, at the end of the day, its ones own opinion.

Dont need people to tell others how to think. This isnt your governemnt where it actually affects your life.

The Leafs are not better than the Stanley Cup finalist, even if Parise is not in the line-up.
- Barx

full season of Nabakov? riiiiight. 37 yr old Nabaokov's groin he destroyed last season is going to be stronger next season?

I like Steve Ott, but come on. They've lost more than they've gained, and Miller's on the wrong side of his prime.

Kane is good...very good, but I don't think he's enough.
Poni-Antropov reunion 5 yrs older than they were in Toronto isn't helping anything.

I just think Devils are going to be a mess early in the year, especially Brodeur, and I don't know if they'll be able to recover.

They've also added some character players, like Nick Foligno and some depth at defence, with Adrian Aucoin. They will get more depth, once they move Nash. They'll also have a full season of Jack Johnson. They can't help but improve. The way that team came out of the blocks, their season was finished, by the 10 game mark. I think Bobrovsky is a better goaltender than Bryzgalov and his chance to be number one in Columbus, will prove that.
- JohnnyReb

they're putting together a nice D in Columbus. Wisniewski, Tyutin, Jonhson. Murray on the way. John Moore...

So, according to you...the Blue Jackets have addressed their goaltending by adding the so awesomely proven Bobrovski with his 83 or so games of NHL experience and .898 sv% and 3.02 GAA on one of the top teams in the league, while the Leafs continue to run with unproven Reimer and his 71 or so games of NHL experience and better stats then bobrovski.

Suddenly Brad "where's my hands" Boyes is upgrading while adding JVR to the Leafs roster is nothing worth mentioning

Reuniting Alexei "can't find a home" Ponikarovsky with Antropov is some good signing worth putting Winnipeg in better shape than Toronto.

And losing Zach Parise, one of the best captains and hardest working players in the league is totally recoverable because Henrique is automatically going to continue progressing the way he did in his rookie season.

But nothing good coming out of Toronto whatsoever form your opinion. Nah nothing at all, Gardiner will clearly get worse, as will Kessel and Lupul and Reimer is obviously a bust as is Kulimen and Frattin and Carlyle isn't going to introduce a new system; he'll probably just kick off the season by running with Wilson's system.

I'm not here to say the Leafs are making the playoffs...cause they're not. But you've gone out of your way to constantly point out the crappiness that is Toronto and how every single signing every other team makes is so positive and automatically puts the ahead of the Leafs.

- Juice

That's just it. They're crappiness. Gardiner will be a bright light, Reimer will bounce back. But will Lupul continue to put up those same numbers as last year, or was that his career year? Frattin will improve, but all teams have young players that improve. We finished 2 points out of 15th, last year. One more victory than Montreal. One point better than the Islanders. Have we improved on either one of these teams? As of today, I would say no.

Its still rather early for the Leafs and many other teams in need of shakeups....why jump on FA's right away when those available arent upgrades?

The Leafs in addition to the Flames will be making upgrades via trades(aside from the FA signings so far obv).

wow........He was responsible for blowing at least 10-15 points all on his own! he played a few good games but seriously you obviously dont watch Leaf games!

If this roster as is constructed today reamains the same for opening night, the leafs will battle hard for 8th.-10th.....add a vet netminder who can play with a .910 SV% or better and a G.A.A below .275...and the Leafs are a playoff team.

agree.
three unaddressed gaping holes:
1)first line centre
2)grit/toughness/ferocity
3)goaltending

Will Burke address them before the puck drops? If not, I can't see anything better than last years finish.

If you dig deep enough there's a bi-law against everything.

I remember my history teacher telling me there is a law in Ajax about how you can't drag a dead horse down Bayley (a street) on Sundays.

- Juice

Some kind of law in Texas still in effect about being hung for stealing a man or woman's horse......law is from back in the day and still has not been changed to date

I'm actually just outside Watertown, in the village of Evans Mills. It's about 30 miles from Kingston, Ontario, as the crow flies, over Lake Ontario. Fort Drum Military Base is one mile away.

the fact that Gustavsson was their best goalie is a statement to just how bad the goaltending was......

Considering the Leafs were in the playoff hunt for so long, I would say, with the minor additions so far and a better coach, their odds should be decent to get a pl ayoff appearance.

I would hazzard to say a total meltdown like they experienced would be RATHER hard to duplicate....
