Forget Luongo! Hope for a work stopage and then finish at the bottom. Pick a top 3 player, use your cap space to grab some top end free agents next year. Tanking half a season, is easier than tanking a whole season. The Leafs usually start poorly or end poorly. With only half a season, we either make the playoffs or end in the mud in the basement.

Mirtle paints a pretty bleak picture.

But then I think about MacKinnon and Jones, and with a little help from Jack Daniels, all will be well in the world again.

Assuming that the Leafs will be bad enough to get them.

Getzlaf (and Perry) are now eligible to sign contract extensions (like Crosby just did). We understand the new CBA will place limits on long term front end loaded contracts. The Parise, Suter, Crosby, Kovalchuck, Luongo and Hossa type deals will be stopped. Contracts signed before the new CBA comes into force will be honored.

So, you know Getzlaf and Perry are pushing to get new deals done this summer. You know that the talk about moving Bobby Ryan is somehow linked into what is going on with Perry and Getzlaf. I would suggest that whoever you see linked to a deal on Ryan has the inside track in getting Getzlaf.

Anahiem has decided to deal 1 of the big 3. Nobody knows for sure which one it is. But once a deal is done the other two will come off the market. My guess is Murray deals Ryan and signs the other two to long term mega deals.

If we go into the season looking like we do now? We have as good of a shot as any.

Came to the same conclusion myself when there was a big "trade Phaneuf for Getzlaf" movement on here earlier this weekend. Not entirely sure if moving Ryan frees up enough room for both, especially if they want mega deals, but you'd have to think that's the game plan for the Ducks, whether they can pull it off or not.

Also depends on whether those guys are happy there. Getzlaf had a pretty bad year but he also had a good chunk of TOI cut down.

In situations like this everyone does what is in their own best interest. Getzlaf and Perry know this next six weeks are the best opportunity to do a long term deal that will not be subject to the restrictions of the new CBA. Murray knows if he does not lock them in this summer they can walk next year. So, he signs them or deals them.

Not well reported but Getzlaf and Perry have the same kind of leverage as Weber has this morning, they will get what they want.

Morning chaps!

Quick question for anyone...Im looking to buy a new place, and the one problem I have is the yard is on the smaller side...but its primarily due to a rather large deck. I have two dogs and would like more grass, which also provides space for a fire pit etc.

Anyone know what it would cost to throw in a nice stamped concrete slab...say 10x10 and do away with the deck?

I don't the picture was as bleak as you're making it out to be. Of the three main ways Burke has at his disposable to improve his team, really only 1 is largely within his control. Sure free agents may not see Toronto as a high end destination right now, but it sure doesn't help when the Leafs are making offers that are no where near the ball park of other teams. If Minnesota offers Suter and Parise almost 100 mill over 13 years, and Burke steps up and offers 35 or so over 5 years, of course they wouldn't be in the discussion. Burke needed to realize that he may not like these long term deals, but they were a reality of the new CBA and teams were taking advantage of them to get the players who were in demand.

Cost me $1500 to get a 20x12 concrete slab poured and finished with a nice edge. Small contractor, he did a nice job. It has held up well over three summers so far.

that aint bad at all

I think with dogs concrete slab would be much easier to maintain too...and yeah Big D going to give someone a call before I put an offer on the house...the yard is like 75% deck right now because the deck is about 12-14feet deep!
