Since they couldn't score for a good portion of last season it won't help. They still have not addressed the lack of offense from last year.

Losing Satan wasn't supposed to help the cause either.

Sometimes - and I've said it a million times - there's addition by subtraction.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but I truly believe that Roy was not very well liked in the dressing room. Much like Satan wasn't. Drury and Briere pretty much ran Satan out of town, from my source. (Notice I didn't say sources).

That same source of mine - who has a good friend at a pretty high level of management downtown - swears that Roy was not very popular with many members of this team.

If that's the case, then we might not lose anything at all.

2005-06 - 281 goals scored. 3.43 GPG
2006-07 - 308 goals scored. 3.76 GPG
2007-08 - 255 goals scored. 3.11 GPG
2008-09 - 250 goals scored. 3.05 GPG
2009-10 - 235 golas scored. 2.87 GPG
2010-11 - 245 goals scored. 2.99 GPG
2011-12 - 218 goals scored - 2.66 GPG

Worst season by far. Where did we add any scoring? We will be tougher and less skilled. I don't know that is a great tradeoff. We need a move for a scorer badly.

And there may be one coming. It's only July 8th. We have 2 1/2 months before the team reports to training camp

so there's still time to make that deal. Plus there are still a few free agent guys the Sabres could look at who could probably pop 20G or so. Would I be satisfied with that? No. I want them to pursue that top line player, and I wanted that deal to happen yesterday. But there's still time to make it happen.

I hope so. I still think Arnott is a no-brainer move for this team. Veteran leader who can chip in 15-20 goals at our weakest position.

This is not a Sabres trend. It's an NHL Trend.

NHL Average Goals per Game (both Teams)

2005-06: 6.05
2006-07: 5.75
2007-08: 5.44
2008-09: 5.69
2009-10: 5.53
2010-11: 5.46
2011-12: 5.32

http://www.quanthockey.com/TS/TS_GoalsPerGame.php

I haven't been able to determine whether there is significance to the fact that our team scoring dropped by about as much per game (0.77gpg) as the total gpg, league wide (0.67 gpg). Looks to me like we scored just about the average number of goals required to win each year.

You'd have to consider Hodgson an addition since he was only here for the end of the season
A healthy Ennis helps
And if Ennis keeps Foligno scoring and Stafford consistent, that's also something we didn't have last year
Also, Vanek can hopefully stay healthy all season

Those are all things that could legitimately help bump those numbers up
And Grigorenko has at least a 50/50 shot of making the team too

Let's not forget that we lost: Ennis for 30+ games, Ehrhoff for 15 games, Myers for 25 games, and (like him or hate him) Leino for 10 games.

I think you could realistically add another 20-25 goals to that total if those guys are healthy all year. And, like Fitz said above ^^^^, Hodgson will help. I would pencil him in for 20, basically replacing Roy's production.

Just sayin'.

Coming out of left field on this but.. If this is the offense there going with then why not try to improve the D some more. Nashville has 1 D man signed for next year. If they have trouble signing Weber why don't the Sabres make a pitch for him? Sekera, Pardy, Weber, for Weber and a pick. That would make our D friggen awesome and would give Nashville 3 starters for next season.

Like the idea of weber A LOT...
But it's gonna take waaaaaaay more than that to get weber
M.weber & pardy are borderline NHLers
Nashville doesn't need to trade for a guy like that, they can just sign them as cheep free agents

We're gonna have to give up a lot to get a guy like weber

No offense, left field, but Nashville would laugh in your general direction. Weber is one of the 5 best defensemen in the league. I think the starting point for negotiations for Shea Weber has got to be Tyler Myers.

And I would be good with that.

I know Reggie has sick trade value, but I don't see Nashville selling Weber that cheap after losing Suter. MAYBE Sekera, Leopold, Weber, and an early pick +, but I see them throwing gobs of money at him to keep him around.

The mentality has always been that Myers isn't going anywhere, but if I got a call from Poile offering negotiations for a Weber/Myers deal, I certainly wouldn't be quick to hang up the phone.

The offer of multiple defensemen is something that, currently, Nashville would like. Their defense is woefully thin.

But I still think Myers starts the bidding.

Myers, Sekera and a 1st.

I would due that. I know it's never going to happen I'm just saying the slight chance that Weber won't sign maybe, just maybe Buffalo with our plethora of D men could swoop in and make a deal.

Yes.

I think Regier would have a be a fool to not listen, at least. These types of defensemen don't fall off trees. Will Myers become this type of defenseman? Possibly. But, with Weber, you have the known commodity, as opposed to potential.

Not to mention, in addition to now having Shea Weber, you still have (If Myers and Sekera went the other way) Ehrhoff, McNabb, Leo, Regehr, Mike Weber, Sulzer, Pardy, Pysyk.

If Stastny was indeed offer for Stafford (straight up) at the 2011 deadline, Darcy should be canned for not pulling the trigger.

This team has been in dire need of a center, and Stafford is garbage. Stafford is Shane Doan minus the skill, heart, toughness, and leadership.

For Stafford??? If that was the case I can't believe Darcy wouldn't have pulled the trigger. I mean that's a no brainier. My guess if true there were more players involved that Buffalo wouldn't part with, IE Ennis.

Agreed. We've got the depth to play with, and while Myers is a few steps behind Weber, he has plenty of time to polish his game. And it helps fill in their back end. I'd imagine Poile would try to maximize his return and try to angle Leopold or Weber as well, but when all is said and done, the deal could work out for both sides.

Holy hell, I wouldn't say Stafford's garbage; streaky as hell, but when he's on, he's on. A Stafford for Stastny deal, 1-for-1? Where do I sign?
