John Scott played only 35 games last season and averaged 6:42 a game. He has one goal in 146 career NHL games.
To say he has a roster spot over guys like Kaleta is silliness to me. - houseofcards74

no room on the roster as of now, if theyre smart he`ll play in the juniors and the younger guys like Leblanc, Bournival, Gallagher, Tinordi, Beaulieu will be in the AHL - Jaciems
Well, there is room behind Plekanec. Unfortunately, Gomez cock blocks the situation. There is room, but its best not to see him in the NHL this year. |

Vanek and Pomminville played well with Luke freakng Adam for about 1/3 of the season before Vanek got hurt and Adam, just... Whatever happened to Adam. I'd suggest Hodgson could start on that line and do more than just go along for the ride, so there's some goals.
Ennis and Stafford showed a lot at the end. Staff will disappear for stretches but at least he's good for 25-30 a year (I just wish it was more consistently) if Foligno doesn't keep up his pace from last season Ott, Leino, Gerbe will each have a shot and open up space (in different ways) for those two, some more there.
Ehrhoff and Myers were both hurt for significant parts of the season last year, and both provide good offense when they're going 100%. More offense there.
I'd like to shore up the middle in case Girgorenko isn't ready (which is likely), but I don't know we need a Joe-Thornton level player here at this point. |

Kaleta should have an A on his sweater for the leadership he provides. When your injuries are due to blocking shots, fighting and blocking more shots you're doing something right. Kaleta and Ott on the same team are going to be a thing of beauty to watch. Kaleta is a cheap signing, plus he's local; there's plenty of room on the team for him. - The_Inkwell
No...he shouldn't. When a team has a guy like Kaleta as a captain, it isn't very good. |

The offense is there, IMO, but it's not a guarantee. Its not top level offense, but it should be enough. One of the problems though is how the young guys like Hodgson, Ennis etc respond. I think the Sabres should be fine offensively, but you do have a reason for concern. Having Miller in net, and the good team defensive Ruff likes to instil, the Sabres shouldnt need explosive offense to win most night. |

I dont completely agree, but I see your point. That said, no reason why a heart and soul guy shouldnt be part of the leadership core of the team. I dont know behind the scenes goings on, but if he is a great locker room type who can rally the troops, I see no problems with it. |

No way to know without a new CBA in place. The cap is what it is today but that is based on the soon to expire CBA, so it's going to change one would think. |

The cap will already be $70.4 million this year I think. It may start to go backwards with the new CBA though. |

The way I look at it is almost everybody except maybe Pommer should have a better year than last. They can't possibly slump worse than last year can they? |

Do you really think that the loss of Derek Roy is going to have that big of an effect on this teams ability to score? |

Since they couldn't score for a good portion of last season it won't help. They still have not addressed the lack of offense from last year. |

The Sabres' brass likes Kaleta. There is room for him, yes. Will he miss time due to injuries? Sure, he will. Will he play his usual 55 games a year. Probably. However, injuries are just as likely to happen to other players, too, and it would be smart to have as much depth as possible. Depth can be the reason between winning and losing. Just look at our teams from the mid to late-00's. Crazy depth.
Now, before everyone says the words "Mark Mancari, Travis Turnbull, etc.", think about who you'd rather have in the lineup.
I'd rather have Kaleta. He brings so much more: Hitting, drawing penalties, penalty killing, blocking shots, great up tempo skating, willing to go through a brick wall to win.
Ville Leino (he's another subject for another time) said that if he could pick two players to play with on the team, it would be Nathan Gerbe and Kaleta, because they're the hardest working guys on the team. That sh!t rubs off on guys.
Signing Kaleta to, say, a one year, $1.5 million deal doesn't hurt the team any.
And I'm not even a huge Kaleta fan, either. |

I doubt the salary cap would actually go down after the new agreement, the owners will probably try to slow the rate of growth in salaries. And since the cap doubled in the past 5 years its not hard to blame them, that kind of salary growth is unsustainable, they will also probably try to control the long term contracts teams are handing out to circumvent the salary cap. |
