The Sabres' brass likes Kaleta. There is room for him, yes. Will he miss time due to injuries? Sure, he will. Will he play his usual 55 games a year. Probably. However, injuries are just as likely to happen to other players, too, and it would be smart to have as much depth as possible. Depth can be the reason between winning and losing. Just look at our teams from the mid to late-00's. Crazy depth.

Now, before everyone says the words "Mark Mancari, Travis Turnbull, etc.", think about who you'd rather have in the lineup.

I'd rather have Kaleta. He brings so much more: Hitting, drawing penalties, penalty killing, blocking shots, great up tempo skating, willing to go through a brick wall to win.

Ville Leino (he's another subject for another time) said that if he could pick two players to play with on the team, it would be Nathan Gerbe and Kaleta, because they're the hardest working guys on the team. That sh!t rubs off on guys.

Signing Kaleta to, say, a one year, $1.5 million deal doesn't hurt the team any.

And I'm not even a huge Kaleta fan, either.

- Powerslave

Kaleta plays 55 games; Scott plays the other 29 games when Kaleta is out plus perhaps a few more.

The team needs to be tough, not give up its toughness.

Rumours from the halls of TSN:

Anaheim is being ridiculous in its demands from Buffalo and Phily:
Schenn brothers for Ryan....I don't think so;
Ennis and Hodgson.....let's get real.
Ryan is good but he is nowhere near the top 10 players in the league and may never be there;
Toronto, is liking Getzlaf and would give up Garbowski and Colborne to get him....may or may not be enough because they are dealing with Murray.

A couple of new proposals/rumours:
1) Vanek and McCormick for Marleau and Clowe;

2) Weber for Sekera, Adam, Leopold and Catanucci;

I can see the Sabres doing a couple of 3 for 2 deals or a couple of 2 for 1 deals and then replacing the players going out with a free agent;

2 things...

1) what's happening with Ennis being signed

2) what would it take to get Cal Clutterbuck from the Wild. Love the way he plays

- LaFontaine16

1) Ennis will sign...question is whether it will be a long term contract like Sekera or a short term; The fact that he did not go to arbitration means that they are close to getting it done;

2) Leopold would do it if they had the capspace; but I would rather try and get Clowe from San Jose or Jamie McGinn from Colorado.

Revised rumour pertaining to Nashville, who have lots of cap space.
Weber and Kostitsyn (both RFAs) to Buffalo for Leino, Adam, Gerbe, Sekera and Leopold.
Buffalo would sign Weber to an Ehrhoff type contract and then think about signing the Kostitsyn brothers....hopefully think about it and pass.

Imagine Weber and his shot on the PP with Erhoff feeding him the passes?
Would the Kostitsyn brothers with an axe to grind with Montreal and Toronto be a good third line for Buffalo playing wing for Grigorenko or would they be a bad influence?

you are high on bath salts if you think that gets it done for weber

if weber gets signed long term in a sign and trade deal youre looking at: coho, mcnabb, and one of ennis/staff + a 1st

ugh...are your "sources" in the hockey dept at tsn? this is the worst one yet...these are the kinds of amateurish trade proposals 11-yr olds make with their friends bc they know nothing of hockey. im not claiming to know any more than the next guy but as you wrote that did you really think for a millisecond that, that proposal was in this galaxy of possibility?

and its not about nash having cap space....its a small market team that doesnt want to have a high payroll simply because they dont have the fans that can fill the stadium which generates income for the team

dont forget, yes its a game, but its still a business

Ennis didn't go to arb because players coming off their EL deals don't have rights unless they sign them at age 23.

Just read a rumor on twitter from NHL_rumor_mill or something like that.

Said the ducks want Ennis, CoHo, and a 1st for Ryan

if that is true...

NO THANKS!

- thehighlife

All things being equal I would make that trade if it was just about the players involved. But the Sabres can't trade two centers for a wing. We just don't have the depth up the middle.

I would make both of those trades in a heartbeat but neither one is nearly enough imo.

Agreed.

I think we are set up to be very strong in the nearish future. How strong we are in the immediate future I think is entirely dependent on who shows up during the season.

Another season like last (injuries and underperformance) and we'll have another disappointing year.

We have a healthy year and have a performance more in line with the second half of last year and we have the potential to do very well.

Regardless I think we have a very strong lineup for the future. A lot of talented young kids in all the right positions.

- Putzfrau

If this is the case then Ryan Miller needs to be moved immediately. His 'window' is closing fast and the cap space and return on investment are needed a hell of a lot more now than in 3 years.

If Ryan Miller is your goalie then the goal should be to win the Cup within 2 years max IMO. Move him in a trade now to get a quality return and cap relief.
