Think about it, if we get luongo he can mentor reimer/scrivens(whichever is better) along the way throughout the season/seasons to come. Once reimer/scrivens is decent one of them can take over while luongo is a backup if he still sticks around. One of those goalies in reimer/scrivens whichever doesnt work out or if they both do, can be used as trade bait in a trade.

And how will we know which one is better? One of them will always be in the minors.

I have a suggestion for the Leafs to get Luongo & Burke not to look like a hypocrite:

Obviously Burke's time as a GM has passed him by since he operates on different methods than 29 other GM's. Burke's methods for being a GM were better suited in the NHL of the past that once had no salary cap & lots of mega trades. Burke only won a cup in Anahiem partly cause the team was already built from within by Brian Murray. Yes Burke did add important peices but he never actually built the team. So my suggestion is for BURKE to resign as Leafs GM & remain as Leafs president, hand over the reigns of GM to Nonis. Than if the price is right, Nonis can get Lu.

My hope is that one day, people finally realize how ridiculous this line is.

I had a feeling that would come up at some point. I remember a few years ago when EVERY Leaf fan wanted Savard.
Probably would have given you three firsts and two seconds.

unfortunately we'd like for him to just be back playing again in black and gold but I highly doubt that will ever happen again.

Even if he was able to play again I'd have my doubts that he could be that 80-90 pt guy he was before the concussions.

That's because Toronto is younger and more talented than Calgary.
We at least have a chance to contend for the playoffs. Without Kip we would be worse than Edmonton. And this yr, with him, we may well be worse still.

- FLflames34

I've always really liked him. I wish they would just move him already and let him finish the last few productive years of his career on a team that can actually make use of his talents.

Carry 3 tenders and have one of them dress as the 13th forward(or number 1 Center) every other game.

I'd be fine with this, as long as it isn't to a NW team or Tampa...assuming they aren't anywhere near the playoffs by Jan/Feb.

Toronto is not going to be good anytime soon because Burke's reputation was scarred by the Kessel trade. Plain and simple. He values his prospects too highly not because he's a bad judge of talent but because he WANTS them to succeed more than anything to make himself look like a maestro. You want to improve your team, Burkie? Drop the whole "pride" act, and get back to business. Trade for Luongo. Lure in another decent free agent by showing him that you've made a commitment to winning in the short term.

OR, you could just keep doing what you're doing and get fired as the laughing stock of the division. I wouldn't mind this. Go Bruins.

So basically SJ would just be trading away most of their depth for one above average forward and a goalie with a bad contract and a bad playoff track record. Vancouver wins in this scenario easily.
- GOODPLAYA20

Doug Wilson is a genioius when it comes to getting rid of depth.

Carle, Michalek, Coyle, Setoguchi....
Im sure he can squeeze a couple more young ones out of the organization through trades.

That Anaheim team was nowhere close to winning a championship when Burke arrived.

They went on one miracle run before the lock-out (with a much different roster) and hadn't come close since.

The changes Burke made were not just minor tweaks.

Since there is the rumor out there that the NHL is going to try and close-up the cap-circumventing-deals loophole weith penalties, I think it is possible that Luongo won't be moved until the new CBA is signed.

Would Leaf fans rather have a decade of Luongo, or 1.5 seasons of Kiprusoff at the deadline if Calgary is out of it by then?
That may actually be a good fit.

Problem is with Luongo skill set Nd length of contract you don't use him as a mentor for the next few years he starts 70 games not 40-50 he isn't a mentor for a few more years he is your con rete starter
