luongo is the "perfect" mentor for markstrom and florida could use a little "star power."

in a few years, florida will have the same issue the canucks have now. a good young goalie ready to take over, and luongo.

by then, his contract will be more digestable.
and luongo will become a mercenary to whoever thinks they're a goalie away from winning the stanley cup.

I'd take old Lu any day of the week if there were say.... 4 years remaining on that contract. But not one that takes him well beyond his prime. Some people fail to realize that a bad contract can actually give a guy negative trade value. In my opinion Luongo is one of those guys. Not nearly to the extent of a Gomez or Redden but still bad.

For a guy who plays absolutely awful when he's rattled I'm not sold on bringing him to the biggest circus in the hockey world because if he doesn't work out he becomes a huge long term burden.

Or I could look at it from a different perspective. Say he were a UFA at the present moment. Would I be happy if the Leafs signed him to a 10 year 5.7 cap hit? I don't think I would. Let him become someone elses problem.

So basically if I wouldn't sign him to that contract why on earth would I trade for him with that contract???

It really doesn't matter what the demand is for Lu. What matters is where Lu want's to play. If he says Fla Gillis is either gonna have to take the best deal he can get or pay Lu to sit on the bench and just be a pain in the ass for the next 10 years. Gillis has a choice but not a very big one.

Lu is in a poker tourny this weekend so he's not going anywhere and there's zero chance of a deal this weekend anyway.

He's your starter the next 5 years, shares duties the next 2-3, then is a backup and tutor the rest of the time. Look what he did for Schneider. Just buy him out towards the end of contract. No biggie. The cap floor will be about 100 million by then and he'll be the lowest paid guy on the team anyway.

Since we were one goal short this year. I don't see Luongo as a need here. Next.
