LOLS, it's kind of funny how hawks fans are all of a sudden singing Luo's praises!

Come on Jaeckel why don't you apologize for calling Luo mentally weak, criticizing the Canucks etc... over the last few years.

he's been a top 3 or 4 goalie in the league for pretty much the entire time he's been in Vancouver. you are only now realizing that he's pretty good?

Your blog would be better if you were more balanced and gave the readers the true picture and not just have a mea culpa later on about how Canucks haters and Luongo haters had it all wrong when it might mean someone from the Canucks might join the Hawks via trade, etc...

I like reading your blog just to know what's going on with the Hawks. As a hockey fan and Canucks fan I like to know what the competition is doing around the league, but I've found your analysis of the Canucks has always been biased to the negative. It's not a weakness to point out that the competition is pretty good, opposing players (like the Sedins, Luongo, etc...) are world class, or that the organization runs a tight ship.

Wouldn't Stanbo have to have a backup plan for a dman, if he trades Hjalmarson?

Why apologize for telling the truth? How about if you just beat it instead?

Could have him right now: Hannan or Clark. Economical too.

I didn't read anywhere here that someone said Lu "Isn't mentally weak" she IS. But maybe a real team can cure that?

EDIT: you know kind of BUTCH her up

Firstly, congrats on a great season and seemingly bright future. I think I speak for many when I say it was great to see Tallon have on ice success as he loaded up on the farm. Awesome story down in Florida!!!

Agreed, I was a bit off on the depth chart. Indeed one of the two rostered goalies would go back to Vancouver.

As far as Markstrom from Tallon's standpoint, and I've never read this, but since the kid is from Sweden the concern is he goes back. I'm just extrapolating on that in theory.

But, would that be the worst thing? Kid goes away for a couple years and is a #1 and comes back as a starter for the Panthers. Tallon doesan't have to fight the kid to play in the AHL and the kid still gets big minutes vs solid competition.

Not sure of the contract stipulations in that circumstance though.

- Mr Ricochet

It was a great season. Have waited for one for quite some time! I believe Markstrom is on the books for about 1.5 this season and he's RFA after that. If the kid ain't happy, and he has to report to San Antonio, that's what we hear down here, then an unhappy kid with a potential bidding war is not something Tallon would want. Besides, he did have some sort of leg injury that is of concern. He had some poor games in San Antonio that raised other concerns. That being said, I do want him to get his chance here. It's NO gamble to count on this kid to start for us, Tallon doesn't stick his neck out here. Any club with him, and that rep thats followed him would most assuredly give him the chance to start for their club.

This is the point ive been trying to make , get Lu away from the sisters, bieksa, captain diver Kesler and surround him with Toews, Sharp, Keith and Seabrook, this will be a positive.

Get him away from AV and Gillis, that would be a positive for him.

Get Lu out of Canada and that would be a positive for him.

I won't (Can't) make an argument for Crow....but no I would prefer to find another alternative than Lu. My goalies can only cry after winning a cup, NOT losing another one

Whatever dude, I was just pointing out that Bernier (an RFA) is behind Quick and a new 10 year extension, sounds pretty similar to what Schneider went through in Van. My post had nothing to do with trading Luongo, the Florida Panthers, or anything else, only responding to your point about the situations being totally dissimilar.

Waaay of topic, but can you tell me what a scooby snack is? I've been a fan of the Fun Lovin Criminals for a damn long time and they use that phrase in a song. I've asked around forever but nobody knows what that is.
- Mr Ricochet[/quote

level? ok i'll bite, it's a dog treat, shaped like a dog bone, scooby doo's snack... Unless you live in Vancouver on skid row then it's a mix of heroin and puddle water... Back in my hometown they called an 8ball of cocaine for sale a scooby snack also....

Luongo has put himself in a position to know he can't eliminate any options on the surface.

It won't be easy for Gillis to make a trade and he won't get a player back as good as Luongo.

I have not heard one credible whisper the Hawks offered Brodeur a $5 mill contract, and unless they want to step to the plate and plug that kind of money into their model for a goalie the Luongo talk is only talk...

Gillis will push hard to move him to the East no doubt, but he too was slow to react and missed the window that was wide open last summer with Tallon.

But the owner in Florida calls the shots, and he has been not bleeding red ink for years but gushing it, so if he wants Luongo he will be there.

Markstrom...We will see, but if Tallon wants to trade him here or anywhere else I would be careful.

Many had Salak going to be a an All Star in coming years when he came here via trade....Tallon knew what he was giving up then and if Markstrom is dealt....Buyer beware.

Hammer and Stalberg are the best, logical trade chips on the roster....Unless Luongo is the only hole to plug I would be very careful offereing them in trade to Vancouver.

Now if Olesz/Frolik were also incuded with Hammer or Stalberg, that would make more sense.

I still say Gillis will be run out of town if Luongo came here and was a success, he won't want to take that chance.

If we didn't already have Hossa, Keith, and Sharp on ridiculous contracts, I'd say go or it. In a salary cap world, you cannot have 4 high $ lifetime contracts on one team.
- Ogilthorpe2

the cap hits on those lifetime contracts wont look so bad in a few years. Hjmarlson's cap hit looks great after 2 years! The player gets paid early. But as the cap goes up, the contract becomes more manageable as trades, retirement and buyouts (they only have to buy out ACTUAL $$) allow teams some flexibility Sure, a team cant keep putting dead weight on its roster. But right now, that's the cost of doin business in today's NHL...

..until a new CBA is agreed upon. And does anyone think it's not so prudent to be moving "franchise" players and/or top prospects until that's settled...what if cap slows/freezes for a couple of years? I dont get it?
