Perhaps. And Crawford was pretty good that year, but I think they realize that while Crow is capable of good seasons (and bad), good games (and bad), good moments (and bad) that he maybe lacks top end talent to truly be consistent and maybe lacks the intangibles that maybe could prevent him from giving up some chit awful goals in crucial moments of post-season games.

Or maybe they love him. Who knows with Stanley.

- kwolf68

I don't think Bowman is in love with him, at least not now. I think Bowman doesn't have any better options on the table at the moment. It stands to reason, at least for Bowman, that the current tandem and team were able to get 100 points last season in the standings. If Crawford and Emery can at least be able to do what they did, that should keep the team afloat until a better trade option comes along.

I think Bowman is looking at it that way.

That is a big problem if he is. If they are steadfast on keeping Crawford as the #1 they better hurry up and make this team beter at defense. F and D. Trade deadline will be to late.

If Bowman outbids for Luongo, and Luongo can't deliver anything better than a first round exit, I've got a feeling Rocky will clean out the whole (frank)ing house.

And we'll still be stuck with Luongo.

There is no guarantee that Luongo can come here and poop out a Stanley Cup. It's a nice idea that he can conceivably improve things, but that's on paper. You still have to see how the season shakes out.

Eli...

That assessment may hold regardless of who's between the pipes.

And it would just suck...to be a hockey club stuck with a world class goaltender for 5 years or more. Who could possibly want that.

Did you see my list yesterday of goalies that never won a cup?

Curtis Joseph
Mike Liut
Tony Esposito
Eddie Giacomin
John Vanbiesbrouck
Sean Burke

...and Ron 'friggin' Hextall for god's sake.

Losing in the playoffs, often in dramatic, frustrating fashion, does NOT mean you suck.

Luongo on the Hawks Atomatically puts them in the last eight teams next year. That guy will easily get you to a second round. And whats better? the fact he wont have to play the Hawks.

My take on all of this is to stay far far far away from Luongo. People seem to think an upgrade in net, ( through Luongo or other ) is a cure-all for this team's problems. It's not.

Does this team have a better chance at a cup with Luongo? yes. Is it a good chance? No

As the team is presently constructed I highly doubt we even sniff a Stanley Cup over the next five years even with Luongo. And then we are stuck with that terrible contract for nothing.

Will replacing Crawford with Luongo fix the team's miserable powerplay? Will it make the forwards bigger and play with more grit? Will it make DK find a way to hit the net? Will it make Bickel play with heart, make Kane more responsible, make Hossa less injury prone? you see where I am going with all this.......

....this team has too many problems and simply bringing a better goalie in won't solve them.

I say we are better off just sticking with Crawford until his contract is up and focus on improving the team around him in the meantime. And we can always try to find a bargain ala Mike Smith last year or develop a young goalie in the meantime ( through trade or other...)

If this was a team who's only flaw was crappy goaltending then I would be all for Luongo, but there is a lot more to worry about.

I think in our own end getting Luongo would be a huge help. Just knowing you have a great goalie to bail you out really helps mentally, But you are right about up front and scoring. A guy like Doan would be a huge help. We need more forwards who can crash the net

Tweek...

As a Lu supporter, I do not think that bringing in a goalie is a "cure-all". Absolutely would luv to see a tested, solid, quality #2 center brought in plus another depth defender who's not 40 yo.

But my hunch is that an upgrade in goal, with zero additional changes, would improve this club substantially...

...I agree the special teams were a disaster, but a goalie upgrade would help the PK. The PP is a problem unto itself...

...and if the team is healthy and playing well entering the playoffs, good things could result...

...but nothing is guaranteed of coarse in Bettman's league of parity.

There are some significant problems up and down the Blackhawks' roster. But at the top of that list is the lack of a true #1 goalie. If the Hawks fix that problem, the PP, small forwards and missing 2nd line center don't get magnified nearly as much.

Waiting two years for the Crawford contract to run out and hope you pick the right goalie is a big gamble and requires a timeframe that Bowman does not have.

Bringing in Lu would fix more problems than any other available player.

If the Hawks were to trade for Lu, I'd be on board with it but I doubt it happens anyways. However if the Hawks are serious about upgrading in net and want a more short term fix than taking on Luongo's contract, they should reach out to Boston and see what it would take to get Tim Thomas since it's pretty obvious he won't be back in Boston.

Obviously they'd have to talk to Thomas first to make sure he plays this year. If he does though it'd be an instant upgrade in net and he's only got 1 yr left on his deal for $5 mil so while that is alot of money, even if it doesn't work it's only for 1 yr.

ummmmm okay? These are two comepletly different teams. Your team is built strong throughout the lineup except for between the pipes.

He only played two games. And wasnt even remotley the problem in the playoffs.

Us not having our biggest goal scorer and not being able to pt the puck in the back of the net was the issue.

I understand you want to be an objective a$$hole. But please think a little harder before you speak.

I completely agree with you, Lu took your team to a game away from the cup. Honestly I would love to have lu but if the price is too high then I think we could deal with some upgrades up the middle and on D, have another crap year and get a goalie. though i dont think stanbo will do anything. again
