I went 3 out of 5 days last year to the scrimmages and Shaw really stood out over everyone else in those 3 games and look what he did this year. Chances are we won't see anyone make that jump so he could be the exception but I still enjoy going to watch some free hockey in July and take a peek at our prospect pool. - hawks1921
I noticed him too...Which is mostly what I look for...If a kid stands out.
I was there the day Carcillo tuned him up a bit.
Which to be honest, Shaw was looking to fight more than Carcillo.

No, I'm not going to make a determination on a player just from seeing him once, but can still get questions answered. Like what style Niemi played. I left knowing he's a super quick blocking type. I left knowing the scouts were bang on, Lalonde is a silky smooth skater. That Makarov looked to have the ingredients to be a 3rd line type. That Crawford matched Niemi save for save with a whole different style. That the speedy little dude who had his wrist broken by that idiot Beach in the fight was a gritty little dude.
No more reading, my eyes got a look.
Indeed age is a huge factor. That's why if Canlan looks like he even comes close to belonging with the men, cuz he's a kid, we can like what the future holds. If he doesn't, it's to be expected. Same goes with the Fin they picked 1st round. Would love to see Whitney, the #2 ranked North American goalie, who fell to the 7th round and something like the 17th goalie taken.
Camp is awesome and I recommend it to anyone. But, and I think this may be what your getting at, no solid conclusions can be drawn from it, but still much can as I mentioned above.
It's just The Ice House sucks, big time. Doubt I'll ever go again. - Mr Ricochet
no solid conclusions can be drawn from it
But you can get a sense of who is a cut above....Still recall Niemi stopping everying 15 inches off the ice and lower...his legs were ultra quick.
Bu sometimes with the bigger guys like Aliu and Beach they can look better than they actually are as well.
From my experience from what I have seen over the years...It's worthwhile but take the cautious approach on basing a lot on it especially if you only go once.
I wait until I see the boys with the men at traning camp to get a stronger opinion. |

I am hard to impress and I like Shaw's chances of being a really good player as long as he doesn't get stupid and starts playing to the crowd.
His best chances for success is not on the 4th line but rather as a more complete top nine forward. |

Can someone explain to me what the love is for Bernier? Wasn't it last season that Quick looked like he never should have been in this league? Where was Bernier then if he is so high a prospect?
I would take my chances on signing someone like Montoya (who at least has Real NHL experience) than trade away NHL talent for Bernier. |

He's young, has shown that he can handle himself at the nhl level, has loads of potential to be an elite goalie, he wants out of LA now that Quick is locked up, and you won't have to give him a huge contract next year. Best available goaltender (who's name isn't Roberto Luongo). |

No - don't care if it's Doan and / or Luongo or anyone else.
Just that the only championships the Hawks can win are the ones right ahead of us.
Don't let cap worries 5/4/3 years out stop you from doing what you can to win now.
Click is ticking, window is closing on this group. - StLBravesFan
My opinion - clock stopped ticking awhile ago and won't start agin until they improve on the blueline and in net. Team isn't good enough as presemtly composed. Not big enough overall, 2 very average goaltenders and not many young players ready to play in the NHL. |

Am I looking at this the right way - If he couldn't beat out Quick for the LA job, is he any better than Crawford on this team right now? |

Only if you endorse it as a complete fix job done by Stan. |

im not insecure about anything, but if you can post a nude ryan kesler photo and claim he is a god (which he is the furthest thing from) i think it is more than acceptable to post a Dustin Byfuglien photo - hawks1921

I am not going to put Bernier down but he isn't a lock...
Bernier was LA's draft choice, many times that gives him a leg up ....see Crawford.
But instead a kid from ECHL winds up getting and keeping the #1 job.

Quick had already established himself as the starter and now as an elite goalie. Bernier hasn't had that chance (which is why he wants out of LA) |

I'll take Bernier as a back up. If Crawford faulters then Bernier will have a chance to step up and seize the #1 job
Emery, Morin, and Pirri
For
Bernier and a 3rd. |
