The one time at The Ice House the 5ft 4in ScottBow was standing right in front of me. Small dude. Dressed and looked like a Greek Tycoon with a tan. ...... Didn't say a word to him.

Surprised you are there to people watch. Management or fans?

I've seen quite a few of these guys, especially the free agents since they were 17-18 cuz I follow the USHL. Love seeing how much they've grown and the improvement in their games after 3-4-5 years of last seeing them.

How can you not want to see the 17 year old Finn? Or Canlan who, as JJ said, we'll get to see play with men for the first time since his last level was HS. Or Ross who is said to play with grit, or the skinny kid who plays goal who is said, and not just by the Hawk PR Machine, to be steal in the 7th round?

Camp rocks IMO. Goofs like us on a message board in July get to see the body of the name we've read about play for the first time.

If I'm lucky if I bump into long time readers etc....Also chat with beat writers.

I like to watch but I'm not there to establish a strong opinion on player X cuz I watched him for two hours.... I usually don't attend more than once.

I pick up things that click with me....I loved Niemi first time I saw him, Kane and Toews were like watching college seniors play against HS freshmen.

Other players like Bill Sweatt who fans loved cuz he was the fastest guy on the ice never did much for me.

But unless you watch propsects often like Wiz for example, or as you do, it is better not to take a whole lot of one practice session.

Sometimes the span in age is 4 years or so....As we know age is a big factor as does who you are playing against.

Similar to the Southern Ontario locations. Too close to a original six team's territory. Just the Leafs will shoot down any attempts, I don't the Wirtz family would allow it.

If the NHL is going to keep a team in the Midwest I think the next sop would be KC.

NW has some appeal for the NHL and if I were to bet that's where the next moved franchise ends up...If not in Quebec.

I don't like the contract ...but he instantly makes us better in all defensive categories
- southernhawk

I don't think Luongo is coming. I think Al C. has hit all the points as to why it isn't going to happen, bad contract aside.

We get it.......corey crawford gave up 2 soft goals in overtime. He didn't play all that bad throughout the series, until the softies came at the end. Heck I don't like him very much, but i personally think there are other areas of need the hawks need to address that are more important.

Last I remembered, the hawks could NOT score on Mike Smith. Why? Well, they had no forecheck (an element that shane doan brings). Couldn't get the dirty goals around the net with all those loose pucks smith was giving up (shane doan is also good at cashing in on those opportunities).

- Wowo2282

2 soft goals have nothing to do with it. The guy has been a very below average to average goalie his entire career with 1 good season. As for the Hawks not scoring goals against Mike Smith goes, they weren't the only team that had trouble scoring goals against him. That's what happens when you play a hot goaltender 6 straight times. I think the number of goals they scored during the regular season is a much better indication of what they can do offensively than how many they were able to put up in 6 games against a hot tender.

Wobbler from the high slot, it's a tough shot to judge. I remember Crawford being excellent in that series.
- 1970vintage

Of course he was, and that shot went right under the crossbar. Few if any get that puck........Kid, as a rookie, played 4 elimination games straight and got his team to OT in Game 7.

Question for you boys, might need some tinkering does a stastny to chicago trade look good to you.

You want a second line centre, potentially rid of a headache in Kane and to dump hjalmarsson's salary

Kane and hjalmarsson for stastny, O'Bryne, and pick could get the deal done.
Probably a 2nd rounder to start with

- DDM-Coga

Would you guys ever trade ryan o'reilly? I always thought some sort of kane for o'reill deal would be good. With other parts involved, though

I went 3 out of 5 days last year to the scrimmages and Shaw really stood out over everyone else in those 3 games and look what he did this year. Chances are we won't see anyone make that jump so he could be the exception but I still enjoy going to watch some free hockey in July and take a peek at our prospect pool.

Definitely Quebec. They have the funding for a new state of the art building, and can have the old building ready to go in a pinch.

The deal was for Bernier from the Kings as a solution to your goal tending situation.
- 1970vintage

He's not the solution, he's an unproven goalie and would bring back equivalent compensation ....... A solution is Luongo.

At best he would be brought in to battle Crawford and Emery for a spot on the NHL roster.

The best Crawford is going to be is another JS Giguere - similar builds and style -both shot blockers, not much athleticism.

CC has a very suspect glove hnad and I really didn't care for some of his reactions after allowing goals - smashing his stick over the crossbar. Shows up the rest of the team. He hasn't earned that yet.

I think Q would have liked to use Emery much more than he did (or was allowed to.

I wouldnt want to right now, have no idea how good he can be or if he is hitting his max right now. That would be way to tough of one to swallow, fans and management love Radar way too much. Probably similar for Carolina fans reaction, pissed to lose Sutter but excited to get Staal.

I am very late in replying, but you still haven't answered the question, as a Hawks fan, is the idea of trading some of your future for another prospect goalie that may in fact be no better then the one you have now worth the risk? Sure, Crawford under performed a bit in the playoffs, but he was lights out the previous year no?
- 1970vintage

It all depends on who the prospects are. If it is someone like Morin, Lalonde, or Pirri I say yes. While those players have some upside their times may have passed them by in the organization for whatever reason. IMO Pirri is a better center than Kruger, Lalonde has been passed by several on the depth chart and Morin doesn't seem to be in the plans either. I know he had the concussion but he has also been passed on the depth chart by a number of players. If they are asking for someone like Saad, Dannault, or McNeil I say no it's not worth it.

Sorry forgot the rest of the answer. Like I said in the previous post, the value of the deal hinges a little on the prospect involved but as for what they get back is more clear. Players like Morin, Lalonde, & Pirri may make an NHL roster they may not. Bernier on the other hand is already a decent goalie. Granted it is a small sample size but you already know that he can play at the NHL level. The only question is does he get better, stay the same or get worse. Crawford did play good in 10-11 but every other year has been very average at best which begs the question was that 1 season the rule or the exception? I tend to believe it is the latter
