Nope. Didn't say that either. Everyone talks about Lu and his contract. God player, bad contract. Those same principles don't seem to apply to others (i.e, stastny). I made a comparable in Burrows vs Stastny. Good players, one has a bad contract.

I am very late in replying, but you still haven't answered the question, as a Hawks fan, is the idea of trading some of your future for another prospect goalie that may in fact be no better then the one you have now worth the risk? Sure, Crawford under performed a bit in the playoffs, but he was lights out the previous year no?

Are you saying prospect for prospect? Or even a guy like Hayes who is unproven? ..... Sure!! Hayes or any other prospect is no guarantee same as say, Markstrom or Lehner.

Difference being the position they will play, and the hawks are thin at goalie. Damn right I'd move prospects for Markstrom, Lehner or even that 7ft freak the Sens got from STL.

I'm conservative with my prospects, but at the same time realize they are there, as is every player on the 50 man roster, to help the big club win. Move em if they make the club stronger.

Assume simplistic assumptions: Hawks get Luongo and his contract. Hawks overpay for Doan - 4 years $6MM (I'm setting up a very bad case cap scenario). Hawks can replace what the gave up for Luongo (a big assumption).

If in the next three years, the Hawks make WCF each year, two finals and one or two Cups.

Then they go into cap-hell that takes them 3 years to get out of - 3 one-and-dones at best.

Would you do it?

Sorry to point out the facts for you.. you and other VAN fans are kidding yourself if one of the 3/4 GMs out there are going to give what you suggested is a "fair" deal. If Gillis is going to give 5.3 to a backup Goalie instead of roll the dice on some other teams bad fruit, then he should just hang them up now. Keeping Lu on the bench all year only hurts his trade value.. VAN is between a rock and hard place..

Again, I haven't suggested any fair deals, I am only trying to find a starting point to negotiate a trade. Until you accept that Gillis will not make a deal unless he sees value in it. So, if it is purely a salary dump, then there can be no salary coming back, only prospects or picks. If it is a hockey trade, then the players coming back have to be better than what we currently have, or fill a vacant spot. Once you get to a starting point, then we can negotiate the fairness of the deal, ie if Lu's 10 year contract is a burden we throw in picks or prospects, or you take something out of the deal...
