Yep, that's it. It's more than Vancouver has ever done.

In the end, winning the Cup is all that matters.

I think Holland is more concerned with filling that big gaping hole in his first defensive paring.

They sign Doan then trade Franzen for Yandle. Problem solved.

Similar to Jay Bo...Only two years left.

Also similar in he is paid as the best at his position for that team and may not be anymore.

- Al

For this Hawks team I take Bouwmeester.

Or they sign Semin and do that? Either or, it's a plausible idea.

100% Agree Luongo is in a different league than Crawford ....but his contract in crap...bernier is a unknown ...i would rather have Lu...he IS a NHL starter and a upgrade over Crawford and Bernier
- southernhawk

OK, so let's take contracts out of the equation for a moment. We are agreed, Lu makes you a better team, therefore the is value to Chicago in acquiring him. In order for a trade to occur, Vancouver has to receive something of value in return. The things that I believe Gillis will be looking for are (not necessarily all of them, just the needs): 1) a right winger to play with Kesler & Booth 2) a 3rd line center 3) a depth defenceman 4) AHL prospects 5) draft picks

Is there a combination of these things that you think Gillis would be happy with? Once we start to come to some agreement on equal value, then we can start to balance out things like salary and contract term.

I'd rather have Bernier myself, last thing I want is another long term big money deal.. problem is I don't think the hawks have a legit shot to get him, so then it becomes and as I have said you take Lu.. he is an upgrade over CC.

I'm wondering if Doan wants a 4-5 yr deal...If he doesn't go up to Canada to finish his career....Montreal/Toronto/Vancouver???

That sounds great and all.. But, The contract is the problem with the Cancuks getting anything of value and the fact that Gillis has showed his hand that Lu is no longer the starter anymore.. Gillis has very little if none at all leverage to demand a kings ransom for their overpaid now Backup Goalie.

I go to prospect camp more to see people than prospects..Unless you are going to sit there everyday for every minute it is tough to get a solid opinion. Nice to bring a young hockey player to watch though, but as far as establishing an opinion...

Depends who is playing with who and also if they are playing back to back games etc.
Most miss the age differences as well which is key.

- Al

The one time at The Ice House the 5ft 4in ScottBow was standing right in front of me. Small dude. Dressed and looked like a Greek Tycoon with a tan. ...... Didn't say a word to him.

Surprised you are there to people watch. Management or fans?

I've seen quite a few of these guys, especially the free agents since they were 17-18 cuz I follow the USHL. Love seeing how much they've grown and the improvement in their games after 3-4-5 years of last seeing them.

How can you not want to see the 17 year old Finn? Or Canlan who, as JJ said, we'll get to see play with men for the first time since his last level was HS. Or Ross who is said to play with grit, or the skinny kid who plays goal who is said, and not just by the Hawk PR Machine, to be steal in the 7th round?

Camp rocks IMO. Goofs like us on a message board in July get to see the body of the name we've read about play for the first time.

The way contracts are being offered out this year Doan will probably cost 6.5/3 yr
He is a great player but that is a lot to pay out for 36 year old.

- VANTEL

Sign me up to that deal! His contract would end at the same time Kane and Toews need new paper!!

Look, in order to facilitate any kind of trade you are going to have to reach a starting point. If Gillis receives nothing of value in return he won't make a trade. So enough with the contract and leverage. Find a place where we can agree to start and then negotiate the additions / subtractions that make the deal fair.

I was at that one as well, and my buddy and I were amazed at how good Niemi looked. I remember thinking that we really got a steal. Which is why I thought they would try and sign Fasth or similar to come to camp and challenge at least.
- Sundevil

Niemi was lightning quick post to post, played that blocking style and was giving up some juicy rebounds.

Lalonde skated like a swan. Kid was bigger too than I had imagined.

Damn shame camp was pulled from the Edge. Tons of the players walked out the front door and would sign for all the kids. Seabs stood and signed, my nephew got him.

Question about prospect camp: do any players show up? I know it's summer break for them but I think they can take a few days off to see some of their future teammates. Plus it sends a good message to the players

Nope. Didn't say that either. Everyone talks about Lu and his contract. God player, bad contract. Those same principles don't seem to apply to others (i.e, stastny). I made a comparable in Burrows vs Stastny. Good players, one has a bad contract.

Is that clear?

If Columbus does not have Nash and are playing with invisible players then chances are they will be joining Pho in a relocate.

Sorry to point out the facts for you.. you and other VAN fans are kidding yourself if one of the 3/4 GMs out there are going to give what you suggested is a "fair" deal. If Gillis is going to give 5.3 to a backup Goalie instead of roll the dice on some other teams bad fruit, then he should just hang them up now. Keeping Lu on the bench all year only hurts his trade value.. VAN is between a rock and hard place..

Gillis takes $5.3 mil off the books and doesnt have a looming goalie controversy. How is that not something of value?

5) draft picks
a 4th rounder

So for Lu we send Frolik ,Montador , AHM Morin and a 4th rounder. Id do that deal .
