We are pretty lucky that it's you and Vantel who post here most often, as you are both reasonable IMO. Some of the Canuck fans that come over here when we're playing each other are a bit trying. |

I never got to see a game in the old stadium
If it was half as exiting as the game I saw in 2010 then it would of been amazing.
You guys are so lucky to be able to see the Hawks on a regular basis.
I'm stuck with the Senators.....boring. - Hawkster
Saw the cup won there up close and personal 3 times, none were the 'Hawks. So many unique things about the old barn, some won't & can't be ever duplicated, due to various laws in some instances, since the place was built in 1929.
Suffice to say, the 2 quasi-steep balconies, literally hanging one over the other, the 1st balcony over the mezz and the close-in end walls, no wall further than 100' from the ice surface, made for a lot of sound bouncing around. Throw in that 6-level keyboard Barton organ with 3,663 pipes, the fog horn and some really racious crowds, the Chicago Stadium will be hard-pressed to ever be matched in sound and intensity.
We never needed a scoreboard to tell us to cheer. And there certainly were no gimmicks to get the crowd riled up. No silly mascot (sorry Tommy Hawk) and no silly Mickey Mouse hands clapping on the scoreboard (sorry MTL Forum). Just raw emotion brought on by a building that seemingly amplified every sound inside without the aid of any electronic equipment.
I'm fortunate to have seen nearly 3 decades of Blackhawks hockey there. And another Pat Foley-ism, from 14-April-1994 during the last regular season game there vs TOR "...there have been all kinds of events held at Chicago Stadium over the years. But one thing for sure, when you take a look around and see how this place was laid out. Chicago Stadium was built, for hockey."
Throw in now over 4 decades at Wrigley Field and I have to count myself among the luckiest fans in the world of sport. To see so many games in 2 such wonderful venues. Wrigley turns 100 in 2014 and I'll be there. In 2016, the Cubs hit a century there and I can't wait. I don't have the Stadium any more, but pictures and memories will last the rest of my life. |

Bulls accepted Rodman - even Pippen. - StLBravesFan
Hawk fans accepted Bob Probert and he was despised when he was with the Wings. |

Except in this case it was way too wide spread. Sure it was a minority in terms of the total fan base count. But it really had the feel of some crazy ass Euro soccer fan base. A black mark on North America in such a beautiful city. If it was LA I would not have blinked an eye. But I guess I was wrong to think it wouldn't happen to the level in VAN. |

A good amount of those people were not from Vancouver, let alone B.C. I was on the Sky Train on my way to the game with some buddies and there were a lot of people speaking different languages(French, and some other languages that I could not recognize). Some of them were in groups together with as many as 15 people, usually men between the ages of 20-40. Needless to say, this was obviously much more than just a bunch of idiot drunk Canuck fans destroying their own city. |

Lu and the twins are classy folks that I like as people... They're uber-talented and they win...
...In the regular season.
Absent of a trade for another goalie like Bernier, I'll take him, if he'll come for two of Frolik, Montador and Olesz, and nothing else.
...if I was GM of course...
We have less need for him then Gillis has of getting rid of him. |

That's really too bad. I hope the entire NHL learned a lesson and their offices will cooperate with and encourage better police presence at all 30 arenas' cities.
Personally - and this is only my opinion - a few dozen cops in some of the areas with guns drawn would have helped.
How has the prosecutions gone? I haven't heard much though I admit I haven't exactly been looking into it. |

I'm an older guy...50...and went to hundreds of games at Chicago Stadium. But I wish I'd done more traveling to other buildings. Maple Leaf Gardens and the old Forum in Montreal jump to mind.
I've only traveled to that concrete barn know as Joe Louis Arena, and the long gone Checkerdome in St. Louis...that was a great old barn for hockey. - ArlingtonRob
I've been to every Canadian rink except (Winnipeg) and used to go often to the Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo. I was fortunate to see the great 80s Oilers while I was forging my young career in Edmonton. Tickets were like 12$ for lower bowl seats back then. I can barely get a beer for that price in Vancouver now.
A game in Chicago is on my bucket list. |

"Deh Gahden" in Beantown was pretty good too. Better have been prepared for no AC, at least when I was there into the 90's. |

I always thought that was the case. Usually it's not the good fans that start that nonsense it's people who just want to be seen at a big event that start trouble. It's to bad that the actions of a few hundred people can make a fan base look bad whether it's yours ours or fans of another team. |

Grew up worshipping the Maple Leafs - and then reached the age of reason. Maple Leaf Gardens was known as the "Cash box on Carlton Street". It's a national historical landmark - now a Loblaws grocery store and athletic facility for a local university.
Compared to watching a game in Chicago or Philly, Maple Leaf Gardens was a boring, quiet building with too many polite fans.
Buffalo's War Memorial Auditorium was a great place to see a game, the balcony hung right over the ice surface and it got real loud in there when the Maple Leafs, Flyers or the Russians came to town. |

Tell me, I collect old black and white pictures of buildings and places that mean something to me. I was never in the old Stadium but always wanted to see a game there. Somebody was kind enough to give me a photo taken inside at the All Star Game. Do you know where in the city would you go to get a black and white of the Stadium taken from the street? |

I don't believe Tallon is stupid enough to block his young stud goalie with a guy who's got 10 years left on his deal. I hope he is but I doubt it. Caps haven't done enough yet to pass Fla in the division. Right now Fla is still the best team in the SE. |

Yup, remember when Ballard actually lived there. They used to have those turnstyle type gates to get in and we crashed many a rock concert by rushing the poor ticket takers.
The Aud was something else. Talk about steep climbs, Great arena. |
