What does this even mean?
Do you realize where most hockey players in this league are born and raised?
And where the most informed and avid fan base resides? - ArlingtonRob

i dont think you're a joke...but in a couple years Hos will have 500 goals and 1100 pts. Thats pretty hall worthy. - miked23
If Hossa is healthy until 40 and wins another Cup or two I think he would be up for some serious consideration. |

Well, baseball does not have a cap but a penalty for spending. It encourages the cheaper teams to not spend money. Hell, teams like the Brewers benefited hard from that. Of course there was nothing going on with Selig ties to that ownership....never.
Baseball enjoys the exemption to the commerce clause, which days are numbered, imho.
Someone said earlier, they need to look hard at trade compensation.
Either PHX needs to be sold to be sold to Quebec or contraction. - sgt1480
There was an interesting piece over at PuckDaddy speculating on contracting the Coyotes, followed by a dispersal draft. |

just saw esplen throwing sh!t against the wall about what it would take to get weber.
3 NHL players AND 2 1st round picks - THAT'S FKN CRAZY!!!!!! He is just one guy!
I get Weber is good but if you give up that much talent and have to sign him for $8M/yr, no team with him is ever going to contend.
If thats the going rate, trade seabs now - I love how the guys plays, but thats quite the haul
p.s.
I would never trade seabs |

That's right baby! Dead on.
But nothing beats seeing a game on Madison Avenue.
Montreal comes close but the most fun ever was seeing a game in Chicago. |

So how do you deal with the Cap?
You are Team A right at the Cap max - $70M and have a player making $7M you want to move out and will eat $4M of the deal per year..
I'm Team B right at the Cap floor - I agree to take the player because I'm only paying him $3M a year.
You as Team A are only freeing up $3M of cap space not $7M. That's the way I see it anyway - otherwise teams like the Rangers, Detroit, Philly and Toronto really abuse it. - RickJ
It's because it is considered compensation. The only effect is on the actual bottom line, rather then a cap issue.
It can work if done percentage wise. If so and so team is getting a player and you give them 1/2 his salary for the year traded both teams share the hit equally. Not saying perfect but it reduces the gray area a little.

Prior to 2010.. Big Hoss was the same thing.. Ask DET/PITT about him the year we signed him, fans thought he was a choke artist
Take your personal emotional feelings out of it.. Is he better than CC.. yes, Does he make the Hawks Better.. Yes
I want the kid from LA, but the likely-hood of that is up there with CC being a Stanley Cup caliber Goalie. - victorymc98
Show me where DET or PGH thought Hoss was the reason they lost. And forget the karma BS that appeared to follow him in 08 & 09 cuz if that were true CHI would not have won in 10.
Take my personal and emotional feelings out? OK. Let's look at the facts. Lou is 33 with a minimum of 7 years left on his deal. CC is much younger with only 2 and half the cap hit. Lou won a gold medal cuz the team around him was best, not because of him. Lou crapped the sheets in several playoff years in a row, most evident against the 'Hawks. VAN is under pressure to move Lou far more than CHI is under pressure to get another goalie. CHI has more options than just VAN for another goalie between now and the TDL.
Sure Lou is better than CC. But what about starting game 83, when it really counts. If you're the GM that trades for him and his playoff woes continue, what now? Do you want to be the GM that has to figure out how much loss to take on another trade or do you just want to be fired cuz the owner now has to bury a few $10M in the minors or Europe.
Sorry, the numbers don't add up. Term length, cap hit to a slightly lesser extent. And the amount of money CHI can send back that they'd actually want to AND VAN would take. |

When the 'Hawks home was located at 1800 W. Madison St. 1901. W. Madison St.? Not nearly as such.
As Pat said when he was MC'ing the 42nd NHL AllStar game on 19-Jan-1991 "....to the most exciting hockey arena in the world, Chicago Stadium." |

I never got to see a game in the old stadium
If it was half as exiting as the game I saw in 2010 then it would of been amazing.
You guys are so lucky to be able to see the Hawks on a regular basis.
I'm stuck with the Senators.....boring. |

I'm an older guy...50...and went to hundreds of games at Chicago Stadium. But I wish I'd done more traveling to other buildings. Maple Leaf Gardens and the old Forum in Montreal jump to mind.
I've only traveled to that concrete barn know as Joe Louis Arena, and the long gone Checkerdome in St. Louis...that was a great old barn for hockey. |

As the Hawks have been almost ominously quiet the last few days, I'll weigh in on the plausibility of Plan C (Plan A being Marty Brodeur, and Plan B being some combination of Zach Parise and/or Ryan Suter).
I believe the Hawks plan (A, B, C) this summer was to keep the team status quo with minor tweaks. All these big acquisitions smell of control leakage by the marketing department to keep Hawk fans interested year round. Reading how close but far the hawks were on landing the big free agents is a sad marketing game to play.
Plan D (should of been plan A) is to identify Hawks needs, which is a #2C, Goalie, and body guard for Toews. Stan and company appear to be failing again. Please prove me wrong Stan with a cup this coming season.
Goalies -Marty Leaving NJ was a 1% chance.
Luongo as a Hawk? How does the Captain and other teammates feel?
