Okposo is soft. Can't be a power forward and be a wuss
- kindlyrick

Well said . I don't hate Okposo I just know him for what he is, a decent second line winger who needs to be a bit more consistent.

As for a continuation of the last thread, here's the point: in order to make a trade, you have to remember one very important thing- the other teams have GMs, too, and given that none of them are named "Mike Milbury", chances are they're not idiots.

Take Bobby Ryan- you want Bobby Ryan? Fine, I want Okposo, Niederreiter AND a first round draft pick. That's too much? Good, then lose my phone number. The point is we have a stable of talented young players who any GM worth a d*mn would like to get his hands on, and would ask for overpayment of in return for anything they might be selling.

Until these guys are truly all that they are going to be in the NHL, any of the other GMs are going to say, "well, he's only a prospect....who's to say how he turns out?"....of course knowing full well that he's likely ripping us off. THIS is why Garth doesn't make any trades. It's not because he's "scared"....it's because Bobby Ryan isn't worth more than Okposo straight up, if that. This is why I'll say it again- if there was anything worth doing, Garth would have done it already.

All of that said, I'll also say THIS again: this team's biggest concern, above ALL else, is how often it decides to trot a worthless piece of cr*p out onto the ice to play goal. THAT has been costing us 10-15 games for at least the last two years, which is the difference between making the dance, and watching it on TV.

How is Okposo worth more than a four time 30-35 goal scoring TRUE power forward? Have you ever seen him play? Is this a serious statement?

Who cares what language a guy speaks? I'm talking about back checking, battling on the boards, dropping the gloves.... Showing you care. Not just being flashy offensively.
- kindlyrick

Yashin and a lot of players are not great on backchecking or physical play, dropping the gloves does that mean all of them do not care?

One time Yashin came out punching he broke Tomas Kloucek's nose.

Yes, you don't hate Okposo, but you know a 24 year old for what he is, who still did not look right because of his shoulder but only had eleven less points than Ryan, who had a lot more talent around him but who's team had two more points than the Islanders in the standings and scored eight less goals than Okposo's team.

Yes, you know him for what he is.................

Yes, hence my original statement on Russians (the vast majority). This is the NHL, not shinny..

For the record, the term battling isn't just about being physical. It's being tired and putting your head down and back checking. Hockey isn't only about goals.....

if Ryan became an Islander, he would be the second best player on the team. There's nobody for the exception for JT that should be untouchable.

I agree with you since Okposo didn't realy have good players around him while Bobby Ryan did since he played with getzalf and selanne!

I would make an offer like this...

Grabner, Nino, ness, and a first round pick 2013 for Bobby Ryan and 4th round pick

Moulson, tavares, Ryan
Boyes, Strome, Okposo
Bailey, Nielsen, Ullstrom
Martin, Reasoner, Cizkas

Streit, Visnoysky
Macdonald Hamonic
Carkner Donovan

Bobby Ryan is in the prime of his career. Kyle Okposo is not. The point is, Kyle Okposo is what I'd trade for Ryan, not Okposo and Niederreiter and whoever else Anaheim probably wants......there is a cap, and if they're trying to make space, there's a price to be paid for that...this is why trades don't happen, like I said. This idea that someone is afraid to make a trade is ridiculous- afraid to make a stupid trade, perhaps, but not a trade. Just because Milbury would have traded his mom for a flaming bag of sh*t doesn't mean it would have been a good idea.

Love your line combos, but ness is not bringing in Bobby Ryan.

Either way, I love that third line.......has it all!

Okposo will score 35 goals this year, Mouslon 32, JT will get to 90 points and Bailey will get 30 points. My predictions for this year.

Is it? Lets face it. We all are apprehensive about trading prospects and developing players away because of the flagrant raping of our system that Milbury did. The problem is that some fans have fallen into this sense that Okposo is going to develop into a player like Ryan which to me and most people out there(Isels fan and non Isles fans alike)is a reach at best. Snow has shown that he is not to privy to make a trade. He just rarely if ever besides Smyth( and Visnovsky)does it for better or worse. You have to be able to trade prospects to up grade your team. Christ, Snow said it himself that we have the prospects to trade now and said HE WAS GOING TO DO IT!
This team needs someone like Ryan. He is a TRUE power forward. Okposo is NOT a power forward. Why do fans give him this title? He does not play with an edge. Ryan brings more to the table and is worth far more than Okposo now and probably what he will become, which I think is what he is. A decent second line winger. What you see is what you get unless he starts hitting the gym and all of a sudden starts playing with a mean streak which he never has before, in college or the NHL. The fans said he was the next Iginla, that's never been his game.

Just read the newsday article. The islanders will not play a game in Nassau county after this lease expires unless someone else builds CW a new or seriously renovated arena that generates CW enough $$ to turn a profit for CW. If this does not occur, the team will move. And judging from the dearth of developers lining up to develop the hub, not only is it unlikely a new/renovated arena is ever going to get built, it is unlikely that anything is going to get done.

I still don't see the logic behind the notion that CW should pay for the demo and building costs for a new arena. He doesn't own the current building. Hes a tenant. The county won't sell him the land and CW is not interested in buying the crappy zoning-encumbered land anyway. If nassau wants to keep its sports team, nassau has to provide them with accommodations to entice them to stay, just like any other commercial landlord has to do with its commercial tenants.
