I still say Semin 2 yrs 7 mill. He probably won't sign it for that with the Wings or Devils asking about him.

I see what your saying, but im of the believe id like to give Ennis or Hodgson any and every opportunity to become the bonafide #1
- CaptPantalones

That's fine, but the Sabres aren't winning anything this year if they want to go that direction.

And if that's the plan they should be shipping out veterans whose contracts will expire as the Sabres rebuild around Hodgson, Ennis, Grigs & Girgs.

Regehr, Vanek and Miller should all be shopped for prospects/picks if the Sabres are going to build around the aforementioned kids.

So you're trading a guy that has 230 career nhl goals for a guy with a career high of 11 goals?

Glad you're not the Sabres GM, no offense (literally).

- Powerslave

So you think Vanek is a better player than Yandle? Some might disagree

Why do we need Yandle? Great player, but that would give us, what, 10 defensemen NHL ready?

This trade makes no sense.

Yes, Yandle=top flight dman.

But, Boedkker=flash and dash, no finish. Career high 11 goals. Vanek will get that on the PP alone.

Why make this deal?

Where does this get us?

Statsny for Vanek is a terrible idea. Sure, we get a #1 center, but a #1 center who's going to have Leino on the top line with him.

Buffalo should not and will not be trading Thomas Vanek!!!!!!

we need goal scorers!!!
we need goal scorers!!!

one more time, we need goal scorers!!!

why would we trade away our top goal scorer???

trading Vanek for Ryan or Stastny gets us right back to where we started!!

Semin is a me-first, coach killer, and I want him nowhere near this team.
- Powerslave

If you sign Semin to a short term deal you don't think he explodes?? I think no team should sign him for more than 2 years. He'll want to prove him self for big $ in the NHL and then sign a long deal and be lazy as always.

If you get him for that short deal you may catch lightning in a bottle and if you just need a nudge to the cup he may give it to you.

I agree, and im not convinced the sabres arent trying to move some of the veterans on the team, minus Regehr. Weve heard the rumors about Miller before, and now Vanek. I think where this is smoke, there is fire

It gives us room to put Grigorenko on the Wing until he is ready for being a number 1 center, Boedker is a stop gap fopr a year. It gives us a powerhouse top4 Defense With Myers/Ehrhoff Mcnabb/Yandle. It gives us the ability to move leopold, Sekera, and not worry about Regehr leaving after this year. It frees up 2+ million in cap space for next year when guys like Corey Perry are UFA's. Were not a cup team yet, we played our best team hockey when Vanek was in a horrid slump. We dont need our highest paid player to be a non-factor during a run to the playoffs.

I mean I agree with you completely...but he has maintained that he wants to play in the NHL. Now no team is going to want to give him a long term deal...so if someone in the NHl (where he wants to prove his worth) can give him a two year deal, you don't think he kills it in hopes of a big $ contract? (not necessarily with the team he signed the short contract with)

Edit: so you could catch lightning in a bottle for two years and say see ya! Obviously its a risk, but for a few years is it not one the Sabres could take? Not too keen on their salary constrictions.

There's no way Regehr is on this team beyond this season.

The Sabres should do themselves and Regehr a favor by trading him to a top cup contender at the deadline this season.

Another 1/2 season mentoring our young dmen and send him on his way. He could fetch a 1st rounder at the deadline and the Sabres should thank him for his service by giving him every opportunity to win the cup he badly craves with a true contender.

1) why are we messing with Grigorenko's head, by playing him on the wing "until he's ready for being a number 1 center"? That makes no sense whatsoever. Yikes. If we want Grigs to be a #1 center, then PLAY HIM AT CENTER!!!

2) Boedkker is a RW, not a center.

3) so, instead of having our highest paid player be a non factor during a run to the playoffs, you'd rather have a guy who is a non factor the whole year?

4) Is there a hidden camera somewhere, cuz I feel like the joke's on me.

Stay at home experienced dmen can be hot commodities at the deadline, just like checking centers.

If Goose got us a first, so could Regehr.
