Only heard about Schenn and Couturier not the others with them. - SABRES 89
Thats the word atleast, that Murray wants a top 4 D-man and a 2C. I cant see Philly trading a D-man, or 2 top 6 guys for Ryan. |

This has nothing to do with value lol. The whole point in the Sabres getting a number one center is for Vanek and Pominville so trading one of them for a center is not exactly a great idea. And for the record, The worst homerism in all of hockeybuzz goes on in Blackhawks fan base. - sabresfan365

vanek for stastny is insane, no way.
vanek is worth something, stastny is nice to have but no thanks.
when i say vanek is worth something, he's a homegrown talent, he's played well in the past, when he can ramp up his game, he's a force, and lastly i sometimes think the "dance with who brung ya" mantra is kind of nice. i would definitely trade for ryan but i would not trade vanek for stastny, no way, no how! |

Semin is by far a better player than what he is made out to be, he has the 4th best plus/minus for a forward in the NHL in the last 4 years, behind Sedin-Sedin- Burrows line. He has a better plus minus than Datsyuk, he's not bad defensively - sbroads24
Semin is a good player, maybe a change will help him out. |

The trade is extremely pointless, the Sabres want a number one center to play with Vanek, it makes very little sense to give him up for a guy that most people would consider a number two center... - sabresfan365

He must be a head case or something. With numbers like his and nobody wanting him is a red flag to me. |

He needs to move his feet more in the offensive zone and get open to blast that shot he has, if he plays with a better killer instinct like he did a few years ago, he will score 40 again. |

He's Russian, thats it. Plain and Simple. Patrick Kane is a headcase and doesnt produce what his potential would allow him too, but if he was a FA, he would have been the first guy signed |

A lot of the people who constantly female dog about Vaneks production rave about guys with similar to lesser numbers. Too many Sabres fan only watch the Sabres and don't have a fair basis of comparison. - mrpurple
Exactly. I saw 'fans' saying Vanek for Ryan and now Vanek for Stastny, when he outproduces both of them and he's done it on the wing with arguably no true #1 center. He carried us on his back for half the season, then battled injuries and got cold so he's tradebait?
People will disagree with me, but I don't think we need a #1 center. All we need is Ennis, Hodgson or Grigorenko to progress enough to play on the #1 line and we're fine. That leaves the other 2 able to center #2 and #3. Then you still have Luke Adam who is right on the cusp of being an every day NHL player and Girgensons maybe a year away. Now we have Porter too as well as the other scrub centers who can play #4 or possibly #3.
Ennis, Hodgson and Grigorenko all have potential to be a #1 center, all we need is one of them to do it soon, case closed.
Maybe our fans should actually consider building a perennial contender rather than change a team every year to try and win the cup immediately. Having the best team doesn't guarantee anything, ask Vancouver. Or see what LA did this year while Vancouver, St. Louis, NYR, Pitt and Philly all struck out. We need a perennial contender and even then you still need to get hot at the right time.

IMO Vanek needs to go, I would love a Ryan for Vanek swap. Ryan is a better all around player IMO. Im so sick of the Vanek injuries and the Vanek houdini act for 25 games a season. Time for a change IMO. Love Vanek, just think this core is stale. With the exception of Pommer |

he kind of is, and also people are just super afraid of russians right now. because he's russian and kind of moody, people think he should play for a discount, and because he has great stats and because he wants to be treated the same (even if his attitude dictates that he shouldn't) he's going to expect fair market value for his services. it's 50/50 on how well he could do on a team, i guess it really depends on the cap hit, term, and whether he likes playing on your team after you take care of the first two. i don't think he'd go off to russia because he stuck it out in washington, but depending on how much fun he's having in his new surroundings, it could either be an amazing pickup or a horrible failure, which i is probably why people are hesitant to get him. |

IMO it's hard not to sign Semin when we need a center, if they won't move Ennis foe Ryan then just add Semin without giving up players. |

People seem to forget that the only reason Vanek's salary is what it is.. comes after he signed a 7yr $50 million offer sheet from Edmonton few years back in which Buffalo matched After being burned by losing Briere & Dru.....Sabres could not afford to lose another big name.
If Buffalo did not match we would have 4 #1 picks from Edmonton...something interesting to note as we look back |
