My co-worker's sister dates Lindy Ruff's son and she told me he said the Sabres are going after Nash and that Vanek may be going. Not sure if Vanek would leave in that deal but that's what I heard. Take it for what's it's worth.
and no, I'm not just messing with you guys. I know I'm not the "insider" and I'm usually hesitant to post rumor stuff like this but I'd figure you guys might like that tidbit of info. - CaptainRivet
I believe it, I think we've been in on Nash all along I just think convincing him to come is the only issue, we def have the pieces to get it done and not that it means a whole lot but Darcy and Howson are friends. I do think in any deal for Nash it'd be Vanek+ going to Columbus. Also GP posted a page ago that he was at a party with a Sabres employee and they told him the same thing you heard. Man it'd be awesome to somehow land NASH |

If we sign semin it should only be for two years max. I'm afraid of giving him a big contract and having him just play like lazy Russian. A short contract will give him something to play for. Also isn't ott a center? Won't he be playing 3rd or 4th line center? Forget Statsny. He's not gonna win us a cup. Let's develop what we have. I only want to kick guys to the curb of they are truly bums without talent. Hodgson and ennis do not fit that description so let's work to make them better hm? Also, Moore didn't work out too well the first time, so let's not do that. Leino is getting paid 4.5 million he's not gonna play 4th line no matter how much he stinks it up. If we focus on anyone for trading it should be Ryan, but let's not overpay. At the end of the day honestly, I think we'll trade a few dman for picks.
My thoughts on the 2012 line up
Vanek-hodgson-pominville
Foligno(if he continues to play well)-ennis-Stafford
Leino-Grigerenko-gerbe
McCormick-Ott-Kaleta
Scratched until bruins game-Scott
Myers-Regehr
Ehrhoff-Sulzer
Leopold/sekera-mcnabb - bsabres716
Ott is not a center. He said so, Regier said so, and I say so. He takes faceoffs then slides back over to the wing. He is a LW |

Weber's situation is a unique one. If you trade for him right now you will have him while he is still an RFA, the deal you proposed probably isnt in the area code. If you think Nash/Ryan will fetch a good return, Weber would/should trump that.
It really depends on if Weber signs long term or not. I could see him not signing any offer sheets because he knows that Nashville will just match it. He is probably looking for a one year deal to get to be a UFA quicker.
To be honest I'm not sure how Poile is going to play this one out, and now that Suter has left I have my reservations about Weber being in Nashville long term. Bet your bottom dollar that after losing Suter for nothing, he is going to ask the farm for Weber. - Gunner Staal
I couldn't agree more and If Weber goes to the open market he will command a bigger payday then Suter received and someone proposed a trade of Adam, Sekera, LeDuc and a first for Weber would have Poile rolling on the floor laughing...one of the first names out of Poile's mouth would be Tyler Myers.
As for trading Vanek, I do it only if it is for Ryan or Nash. All 3 have similar stats so it's mainly you will be getting a different type player in return. Nash or Ryan bring grit and toughness where Vanek is more finese.
Personally I think Anaheim is nuts to trade Ryan as Getzlaf and Perry are UFA's next year and after seeing what Parise received it will cost them mega-bucks to keep them both where at least Ryan still has 3 years left on his contract at what is now being looked at as a reasonable cap hit. |

gotta convince him to put us on his list. His agent said yesterday that we are definitely NOT on Nash's list. |

no thanks. we need a center.
unless trading vanek away for nash turns into trading nash for a top flight center. but at that point, you're losing one of your offensive stars, even if he does look lazy at times. |

Is Ryan that much better than Stafford
Don't get me wrong,
I'd def rather have Ryan...
But to give up Adam AND Sekera?
I think Stafford is at minimum a 20goal scorer
Prob more like 25+ and could def top 30 again if the line plays like it did last year
But let's just say he gets 25goals...
Is the extra 5-10goals Ryan would get us worth Sekera AND Adam?
Maybe, but that's a pretty hefty price IMO - jdfitz77
we get a first though too |

I know. I'm saying no way in hell do the ducks make a trade where they lose ryan AND a first when Ryan is the best player available right now. |

I think Tropp is a better prospect as a tough forward then foligno. I think Ott fuills that roll nicely. We also just drafted a kid that is already bigger faster stronger and better then foligno (girgensons). I know Foligno was a late season hero, but he is not a potential top 6. I would put him in a package to get a top 6. I think He and Sekera is a good start. - Pillar

This all day. . .
Vanek stats
~Never a season under 25 goals
~2 seasons of 40 + goals
~Every season double digit PP goals
~70 PP assists
~40 Game winning goals (5.5 per season)
~ Vanek is top 10 in goals since the lockout.
~Never played with a number 1 center.
~Ruff does not use his skills, uses him to stand in front of the net. |

You forgot a stat
8 goals in 40 games last year to end out the season... while the sabres were actually winning and most of his points from last year came while on a line with Adam and/or pominville
We dont NEED Vanek to win been trying that since 07-08 |

Ok, Vanek played hurt the last half of the year. Instead of trading away the guy that has averaged 33 goals a season for his career, why don't we put some damn players around him. |

I agree. I don't see the purpose of bringing in a guy like Ryan or Nash or (insert other scorer here) and letting Vanek go. I thought the point was to add to our scoring, not make a lateral move. Although I understand that the cap might dictate that we have to lose Vanek in order to bring in someone else, I just don't agree that a move like that would make us better. I'd like to see Vanek and Ryan, Vanek and Statsny, Vanek and Nash, etc., in the top 6. |

Vanek for Stastny is a dumb idea. Vanek for Nash, on the other hand, isn't. They're comparable, but simply just doing something different, even moving sideways, isn't a bad thing. |
