Moronic is passing up an elite player because you might get an elite player with the pick. That's like Peter Griffin passing on the boat to take mystery box. Because it might be a boat. Idiocy.

What if that pick is a bust? What if were still looking for a goalie in 3 years, its already been about 8. What ifs all day long.

I don't care why he would. I just want my GM doing his best to make it happen.

I really don't see the Leafs landing him...Burke's track record is overly cautious and I don't see him overspending for Lu...

Well, if the Leafs continue to employ the same system that they used last year, Lu might be a slight upgrade on Reimer, but if he's hung out to dry enough what will it matter who's in goal...The other thing I read, why would old Lu want to play for a porous team like the Leafs when he's long in the tooth and should be on a playoff contender?
- Flyfreaky

They won't be, Carlyle's systems are alot different than Wilson's. Fact is, top tier goalie or no, if the skaters can't implement the new system luongo won't make one iota of a difference.

Agreed. They need to get luongo and address that big hole.

How does Carlyle's system differ from Wilson's? Just give me the main changes the Leafs will undergo this year...

Why are you so convinced of this?

Last time a leads prospect goalie took the farm club to the ahl finals he made the jump to the NHL the following year and had the leafs within one game of the final

Sure, just not "at all cost". They need to be smart about it. He's not a savior and he comes with a massive anchor.

Chicken or egg.

And that system won't make any difference if we get the goaltending and weak goals like the past 8 years or so.

Trading a first for an elite goalie is hardly a disaster.

Defense won't press forward as much for starters.

No sacrificing defensive positioning to skate the puck forward

You'll see more play along the boards rather than the up the middle high pace breakout Wilson employed

That's just for starters..

They'll play defense??

Seriously though. They will cover the points more effectively, be better in the neutral zone, be better in front of their net.

That will be a huge improvement...Now, I'm gonna ask you a question I've posed a few times here, but no one will answer...How bad is Reimer? Will he grow and develop better with Carlyle's defense first system? I'm asking cause I'm not sure he's the problem...

Then upgrade without taking on an enormous contract, if not, stick to the plan

Time and time again the leafs have taken on players on the backside of their careers.. Limiting ice time for younger players, and clogging the system for years at a time

The leafs simply are not at the compete level they need to be to go and get a goalie to "put them over the top"

Don't get me wrong, I believe luongo is an excellent goalie, I just think it will cause more harm than good for the leafs at this point in time

Burke needs to stop picking the safe pick at 5th overall and swing for the fences. he should have drafted Grigs.

We really don't know.. Which is why I think at this point it's wrong to bail.. Because face it, luongo displaces anything the leafs have in the pipeline at that position.

Personally I would rather to roll the dice again.. In the more defensive minded approach under Carlyle, if that fails, then make a bold move.. But until then, exhaust all other avenues

Well, I watched a good handful of Leafs games and never thought he was a glaring weakness...I'd rather have him than Bryz...
