So, this is off-topic, but I was thinking about a way that the NHL could address long-term contracts (namely, the ones that drop off considerably in the last few years).
Take Suter or Parise, for example. $98 mil over 13 years for a cap hit of $7.5 million.
Let's say they retire after year 10, as they might do having made 96% of their money.
Take the amount they made in the first 10 years, divide it by the money they made in the first 10 years (or even the TOTAL amount of the 13 year deal: 98) and use that as the cap hit retroactively for the past 10 years.
Go back and look at every year they played using their new cap hit. If they ever put a team over the cap, penalize that team by taking draft picks or reducing their cap hit by an equal amount for the next season.
You could even get really mean and say that the team that originally signed them to that deal gets penalized doubly (as opposed to other teams that may have acquired them via trade). - Leeman4Gilmour
just make it so that the amount paid in your highest year of income can't be more than double your lowest year of salary
And btw I had the same thoughts after the Schenn trade(as per your location). Without Carle & Jagr they're in a tough spot right now though. Bryz better come through or they're in tough |

I don't think Colorado needs 2 more wingers. - jbold
The offer them Bozak instead of Mac, and toss in a 2nd instead of a 4th |

Bozak
MacArthur
2nd
for Stastny?
So
3rd line center
average 2nd line winger
and a 2nd rounder
for a first line center that Colorado knows we desperately need? |

I think he meant Kadri+Bozak+2nd. Doesn't make a big difference though |

In fairness, Bozak didn't have too many fewer points than Stastny last year. Although Stastny still does have a higher upside that we've seen before. Bozak's upside is pretty much here already, unless he manages to improve a little more over the next year or two. |

You're right, I read that wrong.
Even more lopsided.
A unproven winger who has struggled when he's played in the NHL.
A 3rd line center.
And a 2nd rounder.
For a first line center Colorado knows we desperately need. |

Not too many centers would of been bad playing with 2 players who had breakout yyears.
Kessel had 80+ points and Lupul was well on his way to something similar.
Bozak only managed 47 points....And those stats were inflated due to playing with Lupul and Kessel. |

Stastny hasn't been a legit #1 in a while. And he's overpaid. Does that mean we'll get him in a steal? No, but there are factors working against him, as well. |

Depends on whether COL even wants to move Stats, which, despite the rumblings, is something I'm not completely sold on, even with Duschene and Oreilly.
That said, if BB is serious about addressing his forward situation, then there aren't many options. I'm not sold on the idea of ANA moving Getz. The main reason I say this is becuase after Getz, they have absolutely nobody who can play centre, and I mean nobody.
Now, if we were to make them an offer for Getz they do in fact like, they would have to ensure that they can get a centreman for Bobby Ryan(Couterier via PHI) as we certainly can't provide that, unless we screw Grabs over after signing his new deal and send him to California |

His drop off over the last two seasons is very similiar to that of Derek Roy's, if you look at the stats(pardon the pun).
And we all know what Derek Roy just fetched BUF. So that should provide a good measuring stick on the trade market |

Every once in a while you hear Duchene's name pop up in rumors. That's a little odd. Is there some sense that he's not happy there or that he doesn't intend on re-signing long-term with them? |

The only thing I've heard about Duschene in COL is that he is unhappy with Sacco as his coach, but I don't know how to validate those rumours.
I would certainly prefer Matt over Stats, but that would come at a price |

Duchene signs a 2 year, 7mill deal....
I suspect Gagner will get more in arbitration...
