Nobody currently wants to play for the Leafs because of hat just occured the last 4-5 years of Wilson. Bad Coaching and relatively overstated media attention to such facts are what drives players away. The Leafs in the locker room seemed to like Wilson, but he's badly mismanaged players, and as such, those assests were traded away because of this. I hate to think that when they signed Beauch way back when that the signing was actually a very strong indication that GM's have a strong impact on bringing players in. Beauch could have done so well here. What happened? Ron Wilson.
Backstrom is not going anywhere. Minnesota is ready to make playoffs; they won't dump their best Goalie no matter how much he's being paid. harding is by no means Starter material (yet or ever) and Backstrom to me is far more experienced and calm.
The only "Goalies" available for trade are Luongo, Mason and MAYBE Hiller (Big maybe). The rest would need to be swayed out of organizations at high costs with huge detrimental impact to the rest of the locker and prospect pools.
Stastny is going to cost a PMD/TWD Prospect (Think Blacker fits that bill), One of Lupul/Kadri, or two of Mac/Kuli/Lombardi/Bozak. And then if you want to get creative, you could probably pull a piece or two out of them for 2nd/3rd round picks.
Getzlaf? Great player, injury history, all star. Eric Lindros Light. Think a First Rounder, Grabovski and Gardiner to start. - Viktory
Look at you. With all your connections in the NHL.
Thanks for telling us who is available and who isnt. And what GM's want for their players.
Glad you showed up with your information from the inside.

Can't say that I was expecting that from the person on the left. - As_I_See_It
It's awesome. Now only if we had them busking outside of the ACC. |

There are about 16 players on this roster who would become instantly expendable if it meant landing Getzlaf. Throw in a bunch more easily tradable prospects.
Take as many of those 20-25 expendable as you like, in any combination. |

True. If I were Burke, I'd go to them and say, "Here is a list of every player in our organization. I've crossed off the untouchables (Kessel, Rielly, Gardiner). Feel free to take whatever else you need for Getzlaf. Also, here are some picks you might be interested in." |

Our list of "untouchables" make me sad. |

Looks like Carlyle wants to try JVR out in camp for center and thinks he can do it... told you so! Carlyle stated: "He's a big man and we're going to try him playing in the middle for us," Carlyle told The Sun on Thursday. "It's always nice to have a 6-foot-plus centre in your top six. We feel there is an opportunity to explore him at centre. "I have talked to him and he has asked for some video work."

Hmmm still a little wishy-wishy for me. Where did Connolly, Lombardi, and Komisarek go? No way Steckel isn't playing center.
Certainly hope JVR translates well. Hell of a position to be tossed in to turn your career around |

Might just be easier to acquire a 1A center and roll with JVR where he's been traditionally suited thus far in his career.

Steckel has a way better faceoff percentage than McClement
Also Liles on the 3rd D Pairing and sharing that spot with someone

I think the Leafs should just go with Reimer and Scrivens, if they crash and burn then I don't mind it, better draft pick. I don't want the Leafs to get Luongo, too old for this team. - Jadass12

Done.
Lombardi, Bozak, Blacker for Stastny. Good doing business with you. |

If the Leafs had a young #1C like Getzlaf on the roster now, what would you expect as a return for trading him even though your team desperately needs him?

Top prospect, high pick and a roster player or two.
Like what we gave up to get Gilmour or Sundin. Doesnt take as much as people think.
What did the Bruins get for Thornton? What did the Flyers get for Carter and Richards? For a guy injured two of the past 3 seaons and is in the final year of his contract, you're not expecting to get or give up a kings ransom. Besides, he is closer to 30 than 20. (27?) He is in his prime, but I wouldnt call him young anymore.
If they desperately need him, they shouldnt be trading him. |

Hard for us fans to say. If I was doing a Ducks POV, I wouldnt have traded Lupul and Gards for Beauch. Never know what happens. |

I'm not saying he'd win vezina but they would be a lot more competitive.
You could put lundquist on this leafs team and they wouldn't make the playoffs. - duckyjets
Wow, glad to see you have no idea what you are talking about. Reimer's problems are a lot more than just the defense in front of him.
The Leafs lost ALOT of game because of goaltending, so yes, you put a great goalie on the team and they would be playoff bound. |
