Backstrom would be a better option for the Leafs. See if Reimer can bounce back while taking on 30ish games. He may get more if Backstrom gets hurt again. If Reimer doesn't regain his form then look for other options while continuing to develop other goalie options from within like Rynnas. I don't buy the Burke is fired if he misses the playoffs this year line.

With the Parise and Suter contracts Minny has shot to near the top of league spending overnight. They could definitely use a bit of cap relief and Hackett could take over the back up role.

Backstrom is better than anyone the Leafs have now but what does Toronto have to give up to acquire a 34 year old, 6 million dollar goalie with only 1 year left on his contract? Maybe some secondary scoring like Macarthur plus a B prospect and a middle/low pick? I really don't know. Anyone think of any recent comparable deals?

I think the Leafs should just go with Reimer and Scrivens, if they crash and burn then I don't mind it, better draft pick. I don't want the Leafs to get Luongo, too old for this team.

Ah yes, exactly. But that's what being a Leafs fan is all about! Obtain everyone for scraps and everyone is available! Burke's an idiot for not getting him! yada yada. Why anyone would think Backstrom is available is mind boggling. Why anyone would think Halak is available is brain hemorrhaging as well. Goalie's become available when the back up out plays the starter (see; Luongo, Schneider; Giguere, Reimer). Backstrom will be available when Harding outplays him and it's clear he is the better goalie. Just because he is good and signed to a reasonable contract doesn't mean MIN is moving Backstrom out. Holy.

Komi and a 2nd could get us Lou and Kuli, Bozak, and Mac will get us Getzlaf.

Not saying they should go for Getz. But just by adding lou who would guaranteed not cost half the team, I think this can be a playoff team. That's a lot more stability and experience in net

What the (frank) are you laughing about?! Bozak is the equivilent of a 1st rounder, Kuli is a 30 goal scorer, and Mac has the same production as Stastny in the last two years with half the cap hit.

I don't know why the hate for Komi... guy was an all star and can crush guys... plus makes a mil less than Lou.

Uneducated fans and media have put pressure on him however. Even Bob Mac said he was potentially gone this summer. I think it's absurd. It took NYR 10 years to get to their powerhouse stature and they have no top 5 draft picks (that they themselves drafted). Just quality character developed guys with some key pieces brought in. I certainly hope he isn't fired even if we come in last.

I do find people tend to ignore extenuating circumstances when it's good for them... like how Colorado's offense as a whole has been down since Sacco's first season, or like how Toronto's offense was high because of Wilson's all-out attack.


It's hilarious how many people think the Leafs don't even need a top line C because our offense was good enough this season... without realizing that our offense was only good because nobody was asked to actually... you know... defend.
