Getzlaf and Perry are entering the final year of their contract and will be UFA. Ryan is signed for a couple of more years.

The ducks have to atleast see if either Getzlaf and Perry are willing to entertain the thought of signing an extension. If neither of them is will to atleast entertain the thought, then there is nothing wrong with shopping them around.

With what Parise just got, there might be a couple of teams willing to over pay for either of them. If they aren't willing to sign you might as well get something for them. Neither of them has a NTC so they could get a kings ransom for both of them.

Of course this is a based on the fact if neither of them are even willing to entertain the thought of an extension.

Jordan Staal was moved for a second line center (though will play third line on PIT), a solid prospect D and a top 10 pick. To expect Ryan or Getzlaf to command much more or less than that doesn't make sense.

If I'm Ottawa, I'm interested in both but only at a balanced price -- a really good piece and two good pieces. So something like:

1. Lehner, Zibanejad, Smith
2. Cowen, Stone, Second Rounder
3. First rounder, Zibanejad, Greening

I certainly wouldn't over pay -- we aren't winning the cup this year anyway, with or without Ryan -- and if we give up too much to bring in a good player we aren't winning it ever with that player, as that player will get frustrated and leave as a UFA.

Seriosly cuz, do you even watch Hockey. In todays NHL if you can pt up 30 goals on a consistent basis you are a franchis player. And he is in his Mid 20's! He can fight and hit with the best of them. He plays solid 2 way hockey. He is a 1st line player on the US Olympic team. I wouldnt trade him, and any team that gets him will be doin alright.

If Ryan does get traded I assume the deal will be similar to what the Sens got for Heatley, a fine example of a disgruntled winger who wanted to be traded and he scored 50 goals twice. The Sens received 1 quality player, 1 project, and 2nd round pick. I think that if any ducks fans seriously think that their team is going to get a huge return for Ryan they are setting themselves up for disappointment.

With that being said, I feel that both Ottawa and Toronto could put forward attractive packages for Ryan or Getzlaf

Getzlaf did look slow last year, and

He only has one more year on his contract, so the price could be a little more reasonable!
