All depends on what's happening behind the scenes. The Ducks may have offered Getzlaf a deal hoping to lock up their captain for the future and he turned it down (similar to J.Staal and Pitts). If he has made his intention known that he has no desire to stay in Anaheim (without going as far as requesting a trade), the Ducks would be shopping him around.
Why?
You can have him walk away next year for nothing, or you can trade him for assets that will help rebuild the team.
Most likely, the Ducks would want Colborne, Frattin or Kadri, and then a combo of either a roster player and a pick, or a prospect and a pick.
Overall, a trade would probably look like
Colborne, Kadri, Franson, 2013 1st - ILoveLamp
I'd guess the second part of that is you'd wonder about his character then. Playing in Anaheim, he's been fortunate enough not to have the pressures of other cities and Toronto is about as rabid a town as you can get. If he did a Jordan staal and said he wanted to go here or there, I wonder if Toronto would be the place? Is he even that type of guy?
I'd also think the deal (with the assumption Getzlaf locks in) would look more like Kulemin, Reilly, Franson and a 1st and the Ducks would be using Ryan to find themselves a true center. Probably why the Flyers looked good as partners. |

I agree with you for sure. But, no one knew that Gardiner would come in and play as well as he did. But The Ducks figured they had Shultz in their controll. And why have the likes of Fowler, Shultz, Gardiner and Sbisa, with simular skills and simular age, to be in the system. I think if Gardiner was still ANA property, Shultz would have left to begin with. Murray took a chance and lost. I still think the Ducks did well in the trade dispite losing a blue chipper in Gardiner. Beauchimn has came in and settled the back end. Just sucks to lose good talent. - Ducksfan93
Agreed. A few things didn't really go the Ducks way...and in hindsight had they known how well Gardiner would play, and that Schultz would take off, the trade probably never would've happened.
Glad it worked out for Beauch though....he never seemed to be the right fit in Toronto. |

In regards to Stastny versus Getzlaf, I could see that deal with the Leafs because I do think they line up better based on the Avs already having some pretty impressive centers. I could see a Gardiner or Reilly being part of a deal, absolutely. |

Gives up a lot of "future potential". Otherwise it's not too far off from what the $ would be.

The other question would be,,,,,How was the relationship between Carlyle and Getzlaf? |

How has JVR become a "major asset" lol - A_Tree
I think JVR is great. His ceiling is higher then most leaf players. Much like Schenn I think he needed a fresh start. As I said I doubt Getzlaf will be traded to the leafs but in the slight chance he is the package going the other way will include one of Gardiner, Reilly, Kessel or JVR. I presume that Murrey is regreting moving Gardiner. |

Where? Link? Because it is pretty well known here that he and his wife like the area. - H.E.Pennypacker
Is it really so hard to believe that a guy and his wife can't stand living next to the Pacific Ocean, surrounded by luxury homes and great restaurants and shops? |

I think you missed the joke. Ek stated the rumor is the guy they are targeting is Getzlaf out of Anaheim.
How many Getzlaf's are playing in the league? - acresd

Yeah hindsight is 20/20. You guys wound up getting the better deal, kind of reminds of a slightly lesser talented version of the Kessel trade. |

Good question. Only two players I recall having issues with him were Lupul and Ryan. Perhaps others know more? |

Leafs won't get Getzlaf. I keep hearing Stastny's name coming up. That makes alot more sense and less expensive. - mywordbud
Stastny is making 6.6 Mil per and Getzlaf is making 5.25 per. Dont get how is less expensive. |

TheHockeyChat (@TheHockeyChat): Just spoke to my source from Colorado. I can #confirm that the #Leafs have made an official offer. Kulimen is part of the offer from Toronto
TheHockeyChat (@TheHockeyChat): I can confirm that at least 4 teams have contacted the #AVS regarding Statsny - #Leafs and #Rangers are #confirmed - working on the other 2
Really no idea to whether or not he's legit or has any credible sources himself but proof that i've seen the name out there. |

Avs aren't looking to rebuild, just to improve, they wouldn't ask for the farm for Stastny. Meanwhile, if the Ducks are willing to trade Getzlaf and Ryan then clearly they are considering this year to be a rebuilding year. |

Gardiner and Reilly are probably the only untouchables on this team.
They'll be quarterbacking our #1 & 2 powerplay units for the next decade. |
