nash is good but his cap hit sucks compared to what's coming onto the FA market after next year where you don't have to give up any players. they won't get much and better hope like hell that the prospects are worth it.

D is still extremely average even with Suter...

Not exactly top tier d-core... I think Suter is going to take a HUGE step back this year withou Weber (or any all star dman for that matter)

If their goaltending along with Koivu can stay healthy they will be a playoff team... if they can't... I imagine it will be 9-11th spot finish.

that's what Suter and Parise were looking at too. Everybody's worried about how good they'll be next year. Those guys just signed for 13 years, Koivu locked up for 6 yrs as well.

Even healthy goaltending is a huge ? for me. Backstrom is mid to late 30s now and Harding to me isn't proven enough to rely on for the playoffs.

Toronto has done great drafting D too. That doesnt make me believe our D corps is a lock to be amazing in a couple of years. Some guys will pan out, some wont. But until its proven, it meants little to nothing.

Nashville plays, and has played for at least a decade now, amazing defensive hockey within a solid system. Weber and Suter benefited greatly from this. Weber will be better without Suter, IMO, than Suter will be without Weber. Weber > Suter, no reason to see why he would be the one to struggle of the two.

Nashville has the system and goaltending to protect D men and help them succeed. Minnesota, not as much.

The future is uncertain. And if Suter and Parise cared about winning now or in the future, the Wild shouldnt be on any list. They went to Minny because its close to home for one, and home for the other. Plain and simple. This about money and location, not winning. Dont fool yourself.

Edmonton = Future

Detroit = Now

Pittsburgh and Philly = Now and the future

etc etc etc.

Thats like saying someone signed with the Leafs, CBJ's, Islanders and Habs because they dont care about now, they care about the future ability for the team to win a Cup. None of the teams mentioned are even remotely close. If anything, these salaries might just hamper the team from being good in the future, should the cap drop instead of rise.

Just to be clear, what D do they have coming besides Dumba? Not much there to be honest. Preds have much better future prospects than the Wild, and the Devils are on par with the Wild.
