Plus signing Souray means they are tanking for top 2 lottery picks in the draft.

If they trade Getzlaf to Toronto, and Ryan to the Isles... they may have the top 3 draft picks next year....

So... the Ducks were saying previously that they want to trade Ryan and get a legit number 2 center back.... but the new rumour is to deal Getzlaf, their only legit number 1 or 2 center, to a team who doesn't have a legit number 1 center, and basically leave themselves in the same situation.

The Ducks rumour makes zero sense. The Leafs don't have what the Ducks need and them dealing Getzlaf puts them back. No part of it makes sense.

Being honest, I'd say thats a pretty hefty fee to pay for Getzlaf. I dont care for Kadri, never have, but Reilly is going to be good and I actually like Kulemin a lot, despite not having the best of seasons. Plus, Suck it Phaneuf.... who's contract blows, but is a pretty good PP weapon. Hefty.

So...the Leafs don't have what the Ducks need, but any team inquiring is going to be offering their crap as well, as we've seen with the Flyers and Rangers for Nash and Ryan. Rangers want a front liner, but don't want to give up Stepan, Kreider or McDonagh. The Flyers want the same, but don't want to give up B. Schenn or Voracek, and have little other prospects to offer. My feeling is Burke is willing to offer up more of a hockey trade for Getzlaf than other teams are willing to.

Hmmm...UFA day is over. I wonder how I can generate more web hits now that most of the big names are signed.......I know....how about a rumor of a big #1 center to the Leafs! Yeah thats it! It doesnt matter that it doesnt make sense at all and the Leafs dont have the pieces to get said center because everyone knows its good business to take a bunch of lower tiered guys and picks back for a high end player. If it were the Nash scenario, I'd agree in part, but Getzlaf isn't asking to leave. The Ducks don't have to deal him at all and basically if you're going to make a real hockey trade to improve, you are going to be targettign things to address, not make a trade to expose yourself more. Top line centers are not easily had, the Leafs and Jackets are two teams who know this all to well. When you have one, you don't give it away if you dont even have a legit option on the second line either. The Leafs have the assets to make trades, don't get me wrong, i'm just saying the stars dont align here.

If the Ducks (repotedly) wanted Coutrier and Scheen for Bobby Ryan, they what do you think they would want back for Getzlaf. And dont give me the BS that Kadri would be the center piece to any deal. I have more trade value than he does. Toronto would have to trade, Kessel, Kadri and 1st maybe even 2 1st's for Getzlaf. And TO wouldnt do that. But then again, we are talking Burke and a Murray deal. Burke would tell Murray that the bag of pucks he is throwing in for Getzlaf will bring the cup within 2 years and Murray would salavate and take a stupid deal. Just like he did when they traded Lupul and Gardiner for Beauchimin.

Pretty weak offer, in my opinion. I think realistically Bozak is a bottom 6 forward which is likely not overly intriguing, I don't mind Franson and I like the 1st (cant see the Leafs dealing it in a very top heavy draft coming next year), but Connolly is a zero value asset at this point.
