I take no offense, I'm not a Leaf fan... just a realist. People get too worked up over this deal. It just blew up in his face but when it happened, most leaf fans weren't upset. The issue was never the trade itself, it was always the over value of the Leaf roster Burke put on it. - Lohaus
Toskala was coming off of a horrific year and a summer of back surgeries (please note the plural).
Thinking that the Leafs were going to finish in the playoffs was incredibly stupid.
And to make matters worse, Cammaleri actually went down to the ACC on July 1st, trying to sign with the Leafs. The Leafs declined.
If they had signed Cammaleri, then trading for Kessel isn't the worst trade in the history of the NHL. At least he would have had a centre to play with (yes, they would have put Cammi at centre). |

Leafs should trade Matt Frattin, Komisarek, and Mike Brown for Getzlaf and Ryan. I agree it would be a huge overpayment by Toronto but you have to give to get. Maybe get Anaheim to throw in there 2013 1st to even things out a bit. It will problably turn out to be a 30th pick when the Ducks win the cup but it will help the leafs build for the future. - Oilersforlife

Quite possibly, but the initial scenario I suggested was ending up forking over a 10th overall pick in each of the seasons so essentially that they weren't a playoff team, but not bad enough to pick 2nd overall in a draft that just happened to have 2 franchise players sitting there. Did most Leaf fans expect to be in a dog fight for dead last? I didn't even think their roster was that bad. |

I've changed my mind on Lu...I've been thinking a lot and Bryz and a pick for Lu would be good for both teams... |

Lol agreed...good convo though
Wasn't trying to be DB, just seeking a rational leafs opinion, because some remain convinced that they have no regret about the deal, but I feel they may be lying to themselves
How do you feel about the leafs next year? bubble? - celata29
I don't know what to think about them. I liked the JVR addition, and I'm curious what RC systems will look like, but like last season, too many question marks. ie. which kulemin, lupul, reimer, phaneuf, liles are we going to see? I think kessel and grabo will have good seasons, maybe gardiner, then there's the goalie thing, things can go really well, but even if they do, I'll spend most of the season waiting for the shoe to drop. So...I'm pretty apathetic to the team. If they suck again, hopefully we get a good pick. If they're good, then hopefully its the young guys like Kadri, Colborne, Gardiner, Reimer/Scrivens contributing. |

Why dont you stop hurting yourself and face it... The Bryz deal is going to haunt Philly for years... Every team has a dud contract or 2... Plus it keeps Philly down to earth |

Most Leafs fans thought we would be having a parade in late June.
And yes, their roster was that bad.
Our centres were Grabbo (and a very young Grabbo at that), Hanson, a completely green Bozak, Wallin and Primeau. That's Wayne Primeau, by the way.
And Toskala (our "starter" - I wish I could put in bigger exclamation marks) was coming off a year of 3.26 GAA, .891 GAA. And best of all, it didn't bother him. He felt everything was hunky-dory, and didn't want to work with the goaltending coach. And did I mention he underwent multiple surgeries that summer?
So yeah, I'm not using 20/20 hindsight when I say that Burke should have known Boston was getting an excellent pick. |

Haha...I started watching Boardwalk Empire and he plays a gangster in it. I immediately thought of him in Happy Gilmore and the freak in Con Air and said to myself, what an interesting cast choice... |
