Only thing seems likely at this point is Gus in the AHL on a 2way, MAB won't clear waivers so someone has to go? I question becuse that's my current understanding.

Are these all in the ballpark of what we think is goin down in Flyerdom??

Out of Lilja, Gervais, MAB, and Gus:

1. Gervais will most likely start most out of the 4, but may be splitting time as a healthy scratch with Lilja. Maybe a 60-40 split? Just throwing it out there....obviously one will get a better look if the other really falters.

2. MAB must pass through waivers to play for the Phantoms. I doubt we chance that. Does he sit??

3. Gus is waiver-exempt; he plays in the A to stay on his game.

4. One could be dealt for a role player or pick (I think this is the least possible option, but an option nonetheless)

wonder if somebody like Tyson Barrie or another one of the d prospects from COL could be of interest to the flyers...potential top 4 types, above the gusty, MAB, manning fray...

1. Gervais is likely going to split time with Lilja as the 6/7th defenseman. He's not likely to be slotted ahead of Timonen, Coburn, Grossmann, Meszaros or Schenn.

2. Bourdon was still having concussion symptoms as recently as a month ago. He is not waivers exempt, though, so he'll be in the mix for the same spot as Gervais, Lilja and Gustafsson.

3. Gus is likely to play in the AHL, unless he wins the 6th defenseman job outright.

4. Possible trade bait, sure.

I think they will carry 8 guys on defense, at least to start. It's also possible that they will bury Lilja in the AHL and just deal with the dead space.

Random thought. Did Briere ever play on a line with Doan? Any friendship there?

Grabbing another potential Coburn would be fantastic, but it's hard to pry kids loose during the summer when all the teams are high on potential and there's not outside pressure from the standings.

With that said, Cameron Gaunce would probably be a more realistic option out of COL if they're looking to balance their prospect pool a bit.

If they really want to hit a homerun, I'd go hard after Mark Barberio from Tampa.

I don't think MAB's waivers exempt status really gives him the inside track at a roster spot -- he could easily go unclaimed, like Bartulis did repeatedly. While he filled in quite nicely last season, he's still more of a fringe prospect than a can't-miss at this point. How many teams would invest a roster spot/contract slot/cap space on him knowing that they had to keep him up at the NHL level when he'd have a hard time cracking their top-6?

Lilja will probably be eating a lot of popcorn this year... pawning him off to another club doesn't seem likely, at least not during the summer when teams would rather audition their kids.

The one reason I think he may stick is because Holmgren said that they were possibly going to keep 8 defensemen.

I don't think he's got a spot locked up at all, though.
